Location was perfect, right on the beach. You could hear the sea at night! The hotel and the rooms were very comfortable, quiet and cozy. Good breakfast, kind and attentive staff. We had a super nice and relaxing time here. We also loved the two dogs (one of them was 20 years old!!), please continue to take care of them:)
No complaints about Southern Star, we enjoyed everything very much. However, we recommend that you avoid the tuktuks waiting outside the hotel. Much cheaper to book a ride using PickMe, just don't let the local "tuktuk maffia" chase your driver away.

The only positive aspect was the sea view and proximity to the beach, but despite that, with all the negative aspects, it turned into the worst hotel in the world for me.
Initially, we were greeted with the worst hotel room imaginable. Then we realized that the hotel lacked basic amenities such as water, soap, and even shampoo, despite being mentioned in the booking that they even had an iron. However, there was nothing in the room, and a regular hostel had better facilities than this supposedly three-star hotel. It was truly disappointing, and the staff's behavior was extremely poor. This hotel became the worst memory of the trip, turning into a nightmare.

The position was great, right on the beach, and the room was comfortable. Staff were really friendly and the food was fine. Good value for money. Nice pool.
Nothing to really complain about - except rather poor Wi-Fi - but without any real x factor to make it special.

The location is wonderful, right on the beach. The rooms have a decent sized balcony. The staff were pleasant, honest and helpful. The owner himself cooked wonderful pasta and sandwich for us.
Breakfasts were adequate and cooked as per request. Be warned, the regular cook's food is very heavy on salt. Instruct amount according to your preference. There is no staff there overnight, but if you do step out for a late night, the watchman will let you in.
The bathroom was a very good size, but very basic. It needs a shower curtain, at least, and decent fixtures and more lighting. The room is smaller than it looks in the photos, but the bed is huge. If the extra, unneeded chairs were removed from the room, space would be created. The fridge provided, was right next to the bed, in a very uncomfortable position. If some thought was put into rearranging the room, it would make it real value for money.

the hotel is dirty and broken:
The windows from the bathroom look out onto a platform where any burglar without temptation can, even from the street, come in from the street and climb through the window. In our room, the window hooks did not close. There is no safe in the room. the hooks from the door to the balcony were broken. the keyhole from the front door and the air conditioners are rusty and dirty. I was with my wife in that hotel from 2 o'clock in the afternoon until 10 am the next morning. During this time it turned off 3 times air conditioning and light. It was very stuffy at night. Because, as the staff once again fixed the electricity, the air conditioning was 16 C and the fan was not working well. The pool is dirty. We arrived after check-in and we had to ask the guys to wash the pool from branches and dirt. they did it, but it didn't get any better. in the morning: we wrote in booking that we want to change the reservation instead of 4 nights to 1 night. (Bukin helped. Thank you very much for your support and protection of users). The owner of the hotel, when he found out that we wanted to leave, began to show an aggressive tone when talking. And he didnt want to let us go until we canceled the reservation, due to the fact that he didnt want to pay a $30 tax. And he constantly asked to show his phone number, which was what Booking was writing about the cancellation. We said that it was illegal to detain us, because our dialogues should be conducted through the booking account to which my bank card is linked. Regarding the beach, the hotel is not located in Bentota. It is located nearby, the waves are very strong, you can only swim on the edge 400 meters to the left in a small area where there are water rocks. I am a Doctor, my wife is an Architect. We have traveled a lot and know what a 3 star hotel is. This is not a hotel or a service, and we are amazed at such a high rating and good comments.

The view and courtesy of the keepers. The view is exceptional for the sunset. The cost is affordable. Food is delicious. They could customize the dishes as per our taste. They are very friendly and warm. Mr.Kamal reached us and took care of all our needs.
