The host and his wife are friendly people and welcoming. Senju Tamuraya is very clean and. sparkling. All the woodwork gives a very cosy feel. The common areas are very pleasant. There is tourist information, such as brochures and Lonely Planet guides to Japan and a Rough Guide also. I needed directions to the nearest Railway station and then info about transferring so I could get to Shibuya. The host kindly drew a map. I believe he and his wife try very hard to provide a pleasant, homely experience. There are lots of rules but they are running a Ryokan by religious principles, I mean the moral rules are because of religious reasons. I wanted to learn about Japanese culture and practices. My stay was very enjoyable. asked me about the coffee. It's nice to have it provided.
I don't have any complaints as the reason to stay in a Ryokan must be to experience authentic traditions. Seeing that I chose the room knowing what it had, that it had tatami flooring, futon, TV, then when I checked in, I could see that in the piece of furniture under the TV had space to store some things underneath. There was a good amount of hooks to hang up clothes, with coat hangers. There was a mounted cabinet for luggage storage.

It was very conveniently located near Senjuohashi and Minami-senju station. It made it so easy to go from place to place. The fact that there is a convenience store pretty much next door was great! I forgot my toiletries so I didn’t have to walk miles to get some. The rooms themselves were great I loved sleeping on the futon with a tatami floor, felt very traditional. The old boy who was running it spoke good English and was super helpful. I found it very comfortable and pleasant overall.
There was no mirror in the bathroom and the only sink was the back of a toilet. Little tricky for brushing teeth and makeup applying.

We hadn’t stayed in a hostel before, but we were pleasantly surprised! We had access to all essential/non-essential such as bathroom, kitchen, smoking area, vending machines, washing machines, dryer, hair dryer etc. The staff were always lovely and the place was very very clean! Everyone one else who stayed there was also lovely and cleaned up after themselves.
The only con was that it is a little far from the inner city (about a 10-15 minute walk to nearest station). But there is a 7/11 not even 15 seconds around the corner!

Everything neccessary is available within a five minute walk: konbini (24 hour supermarket), ATM terminal, subway station, various budget friendly food options. My room was small (by European standards), but had everything I needed and you don't travel to Tokyo to sit in your room, right? Sleeping on a futon was new for me and surprisingly comfortable. The staff is friendly and speaks English. The area itself is relatively quiet by Tokyo standards and it was nice to get a little insight into the day to day life of people, away from the hustle and bustle of areas like Shinjuku or Shibuya. If you find yourself unable to sleep due to jetlag, I suggest a nightly walk through the neighbourhood and to the Arakawa river.

Very clean, comfortable, great value for the price. Washer/dryer for clothes, vending machine for drinks, fully stocked kitchen, room that locks with key. Shared bathrooms/showers that include shampoo and conditioner and were always available when needed. 7-eleven at the end of the block.
Walls/doors were very thin and lacked any kind of sound proofing. Location is 15 min walk from the closest train station which can be rough after a long day of walking. Room had some humidity issues and the florescent ceiling light was a little too harsh.

I've stayed at the property 5 times in total. It's a wonderful place. While being a hostel, it provides all the important facilities and more! Showers are always available and clean, you have a washer with a drier, full-fledged kitchen and even a music room that you can use free of charge (with piano, guitar, drums and bass available for you to use). The owner is an extremely helpful person, too!
Honestly, for the price, I have no complaints and am happy to return to the place time after time.

Senju Tamuraya is about a 7-10 minute easy walk from the railway station, which is surrounded by convenience stores and shops/restaurants. A very quiet area and a spotlessly clean establishment. The owner is a friendly man who takes great pride in his business. The facilities were great for making your own meals. There are several shower rooms and toilets, so we never had to wait and there's a lovely hot public bath available for use every evening between 6-10pm. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay again (my son had stayed there previously, so we booked on his recommendation).
There was nothing we didn't like about the property. The only issue we had was when one female guest decided it was a good idea to blowdry her hair right outside our room at 12.40am!! There are signs everywhere asking people to be quiet from 10pm to respect other guests!

Very nice stay for my first days in Japan. Clean, the personal is polite and if you like Tatami, it is really great.

A small hostel with Japanese-style futon beds (at first we were wary of the hard, beanbag-like pillows, but they were so good for my neck and shoulders I want to buy one for my own bed at home!). It was nothing fancy, but the location was great (about 10 minutes walk to the train and then half an hour to Shinjuku) and the place was clean and quiet and the staff was nice.
