I stayed here 2 years ago with my other daughter and loved the location to the temple and unexpected surprise of the first Sunday of the month market at the temple. So I booked again for this trip and the rooms and location were as lovely as ever. Washer/Dryer are such an added bonus.

The Sunrise Hotel was beautiful and tranquil, blending traditional style with modern amenities. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel looked even better in person than in the online photos. Our room was spacious for Japan and had windows facing Toji Temple, which was a great surprise. The hotel also provided bottle water for each guest everyday as well as new towels and garbage collection on days that room cleaning is not done.
The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Toji station. From Kyoto station, take the Kintetsu line (local) train to Toji station, then walk about three blocks to the hotel. We would definitely stay again next time we visit Kyoto.
We enjoyed our stay, but it would have been nice to have some hooks for hanging reusable towels. Also, the TV did not support streaming Netflix or YouTube using our own accounts so instead we used our laptops and phones which was no biggie.

The place is absolutely beautiful, and our suite had everything we needed— even a washer and dryer, which made our trip so convenient. Super comfortable stay and great value. Just across from To-ji Temple. Highly recommend!

This hotel is a great place to stay in Kyoto, especially if you’re there for more than a few nights! The room was incredibly spacious, and was fully equipped with all amenities. We especially liked that they provided Yukata, which were perfect to wear while we had breakfast (delicious, and delivered straight to our room!). It’s really great that you can order breakfast quite early, as we always wanted to get up before the crowds. The in-unit laundry was also perfect, and easy to use.
We had a room that didn’t have a window onto the outside, but onto the inner courtyard/elevator, so we couldn’t really open it (you could directly see into the room). The shutters are also not blackout, so we had the light from the courtyard the whole night.

Our view of Toji Temple and the beauty of the property came as a wonderful surprise!
We had a third bed for our son that did not have a headboard for him to lean on to relax in the bed. Just a minor inconvenience.

Very cute place, lovely design, tucked in off a main road. Beautiful view of the tall To-ji pagoda. Staff were very accommodating and kind. Lighting in the room was very thoughtfully planned out. Comfy bed, well-equipped. All the provided kitchen equipment was pristine. Anything else we needed, like an iron, they happily supplied. Shower pressure was simply phenomenal. Great location, plenty of shops around open late or 24hrs. Buses at doorstep, trains a short walk away.
Prices online fluctuate. Fridge is absolutely tiny.

Japanese styled hotel, very beautiful, big comfy room with modern amenities including kitchen and washing/dryer machine in the room.Zen garden on each floor, Beautiful view from the rooftop. Buses to main city attractions across the street.Loved it.

The hotel looks amazing, and the rooms have a very retro feel (with those shoji walls in some parts). The interior is beautiful. The staff was very helpful and patient. It's right next to To-Ji Temple, so easy for transportation. The breakfast was good. The room was spacious and the bath was excellent. There is also a washing machine, not very common for hotel rooms.
Don't really have any complaints. Some rooms don't have a window, but that did't bother us.

The property is more geared to be a traditional Japanese experience, including the breakfast. The mattress was a little hard but overall the room was comfortable!

Everything I would want from a stay in Kyoto and MORE! The staff were phenomenal and very careful with my peanut allergy when breakfast was served. The room was extremely spacious for us two. It was comfy and what we needed after adventuring the suburbs. One of the gentleman at the front counter let us feed the fish and it meant so much to us.
That there was no microwave but I knew this prior to staying.

Room was a good size and the decoration to have a semi-Japanese feel to it (sliding doors and decor but not tatami mats).
Only crucial was that the washer dryer did not have a shorted wash function.
