Disappointing
BEWARE FOR BREAKFAST. When we checked into the hotel the NICE gentleman at the reception told us NOT to have breakfast the next day because it was TOO expensive but to go around the corner to the supermarket. When the next morning at 8.00 AM I decided that we would have breakfast anyhow (the price was really not that bad) he was still there and now he told me, NOT POSSIBLE, TOO LATE. So we had to go to the supermarket and buy industrial-type food. To make the whole situation even worse, we were NOT ALLOWED to eat it in the empty breakfast room and had to go to our room. By then, the NICE gentleman had left, and I spoke to a nice European receptionist. She called the owner, but the answer was "THERE WAS NOTHING WE CAN DO". We had chosen this hotel specifically based on the pictures on booking.com because it was traditional and the food pictures looked SO GOOD. So what should have been a wonderful experience turned out to be a humiliation. The most expensive hotel of our entire trip with a CARREFOUR type breakfast. And the owner DID NOT CARE. Too bad.... it could have been so nice... So make sure you book WITH a meal but that is not even a guarantee as we met a nice family from Israel who just did that and did not get breakfast out. So maybe there was something else at work, and the comment about too expensive was just an excuse? We did NOT GET ANY APOLOGY.

Wonderful
Impeccably clean and all materials were in a pristine state. Rooms were large with excellent views and amenities. Coming back to the ryokan at the end of a hot day felt peaceful, cozy. The staff was very courteous and offered clear explanations for our stay. Given the heat wave, the air conditioning was great!
1. The television VOD did not work. We would have liked to be able to order a movie.
2. There is only 1 small bath (outside) for the entire ryokan and you are obligated to pay for it. We would have preferred a more traditional onsen facility that is included in the price of the room.

Was a wonderful experience…the staff was exceedingly warm, accommodating, eager to serve and happy. The private baths were exceptional. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable and the whole stay was an authentic, traditional Japanese experience. We loved it!

Our room was traditional with futons- lovely view over the garden. Bathroom was spacious and well supplied with great toiletries. We had a fantastic kaiseki meal in our yukatas. Absolutely delicious lobster appetizer and sashimi. The food was copious and incredibly good. We appreciated being able to thank the chef in person after the meal.
The ryokan is located close to the Philosophers Path/ Walk. Had a chance to walk there in the evening and again in the morning.
Beautiful spot!
This was the second time staying in this Ryokan. Service and quality are consistently great.

A bit of a distance to walk to find food, but if you’re not lazy, it was still worth being removed from the urban center, and having to walk to find things

I like how the staffs are so helpful and nice. The place is a 5 min walk from a 24H grocery store and bus stop which makes it easier for food and transport. There also a luggage transport hub available at the lobby if you are thinking of forwarding your luggage to your next destination in Japan.

Absolutely unacceptable experience and easily the worst accommodation we encountered during our trip in Japan.
After returning to the room later in the evening, we discovered multiple insects crawling on the futon bedding and around our belongings (see photos attached). As we inspected the room further, we found visible mildew/mold in the bathroom grout, stained pillows and bedding, and overall hygiene standards that were far below what should be expected from any accommodation, especially at this price point.
The situation became so concerning that we no longer felt comfortable spending the night there and made the decision to leave the property the very same evening despite having already fully paid for the stay. We were then forced to spend a significant additional amount out of pocket for another hotel at short notice.
What made the experience even worse was the response from the front desk. We explained our concerns regarding the insects and cleanliness issues, but instead of taking the matter seriously or attempting to meaningfully assist us, we felt completely brushed off and dismissed. There was no real effort to reassure us or properly resolve the situation.
Instead of enjoying our evening, we spent hours inspecting luggage, washing clothes, and worrying about bringing insects with us to our next accommodation.
The traditional aesthetic of the property does not excuse unacceptable hygiene standards and poor customer service. Cleanliness is the absolute minimum expectation when paying for accommodation, and the handling of the situation only made the experience more frustrating.
We cannot recommend this property and strongly encourage future guests to think carefully before booking.

The room was perfect. The private onsen was awesome. Location was great. Staff was very kind generally.
Staff was fairly helpful zero use for assisting with making reservations or answering the messages sent through booking or helping with luggage delivery. I was having such a hard time with the online sagawa form and he just stood there. He didnt offer to do the yamato form or anything. All other hotels just filled it out and later we find there are specific conditions to be met for a successful pickup that he didnt mention. Such a hassle from this location.

Experience was perfect. We weared Yukatas, they deliveded luggages to the room. We use private Onsen and we tried Kaiseki experience. All was perfect. They also sent our luggages to the another city as well.
Staff can speak more English but still they were friendly and helped.
