I liked the location of the property as I was able to visit nearby the Gion district. However, one should be prepared to walk a lot staying here.
Please be mindful of the closest station and the way to reach it especially if you are travelling from the main Kyoto station.
My trip to Kyoto owes a lot to my choice of accommodation given that I was able to thoroughly see what all this side of Kyoto had to offer.
I believe that short stays like mine of upto 3 days didn’t offer room cleaning on a per day basis. In addition, while there was a fridge in the hotel room, I still wish the hotel offered the combination of bed along with breakfast but the latter was missing. Having stayed in shared accommodation beforehand, it was a good change to have the room to myself and I must note fortunately or unfortunately ( it depends on your perspective), the door to the room truly was soundproof

Very modern and clean room, helpful check-in staff who were able to speak English, lively hostel setting with live music. Also with a large kitchen where you could use the supplies. Great location for shopping.
Recessed area outside of the hostel is for designated smoking, but the smell wafted over into the basement bar/kitchen area located adjacent to it.

Our family room was spacious and the hostel has a rooftop terrace accessible throughout the summer. Showers and washrooms, which were clean and granted sufficient privacy, are available which makes it easier to share a room, in addition to our private bathroom. Toshi at the front desk was kind and patient, shared his must do one day itinerary in Kyoto and recommended a delicious restaurant for our first dinner. The hostel is very well situated, multiple boutiques, cafes and restaurants are walking distance (as well as Nishiki market).
The breakfast buffet options were however limited (many delicious options within walking distance), and smoking is permitted right outside the dining room door. The smell upon entering in the dining room/lounge/bar is tainted with smoke. Smoking is also permitted on the rooftop terrace. The air smelled stale and windows don’t open in the rooms (Overall very humid).

This hotel was clean and comfortable. It had many amenities like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. As well as free skin care upfront if you need. They also had tea and coffee. It was in a great location within walking distance to a bike rental which we used to get around and see the area. Breakfast was included and was good.

We loved Kyoto as a city and truly enjoyed the walkability to all of Kyoto’s attractions and public transportation. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and gave us wonderful recommendations for both attractions and food. The space itself felt very new, modern, and clean.
We especially appreciated being able to do laundry onsite and having the option to attend hostel events (like free jazz nights) and (paid) calligraphy sessions. The beds were the most comfortable we experienced during our time in Japan, and we also really enjoyed spending time on the rooftop during the week days.
One downside was the motion-sensor light at the entrance of our room. It would turn on with even the slightest movement, which made it difficult for anyone to use the restroom at night without waking the others. It also came on while we were getting ready or even just relaxing in bed, and after five days it became pretty frustrating. We didn’t try covering the sensor, but that may help future guests.
The rooms were also quite small for three people, even by hostel standards, though we still felt the stay was worth it for the price and location.
Our biggest complaint was the smoking situation. There was no designated smoking area, so people were smoking at the building entrance, outside the common area in the basement, and on the rooftop. It made it hard to avoid the smell of cigarettes if you wanted to spend time outside your room or enjoy the shared spaces.

The common spaces are well thought out and very enjoyable for a calm evening. The room was clean and very comfortable despite it being fairly small.
The breakfast buffet was only ok and the price was much higher than in other major cities in Japan.

Staff was great. Great location in Kyoto with a fantastic bakery (Walder) just a block away. It was so good we lived off their pastries for a whole day.
Not the most comfortable room. A but small, not well lit, and the automatic overhead lights were very annoying when using the bathroom overnight

The shared spaces of the hostel are well-designed, practical, and immensely beautiful.
There are big groups of guests who took all space in the shared kitchen in the morning which can be annoying.

Probably the nicest place I’ve ever stayed with amazing amenities including a basement and rooftop bar and the showers and soaps and Dyson blowdryers were so nice and you got fresh towels everyday. I stayed in a bunk bed room and it was very nice inside. I am curious about individual rooms, those are probably very nice as well. The people at the front desk were great and so helpful!!
There was only one bathroom on my floor

I really enjoyed my stay in Kyoto because of this hostel! The room was clean, and I especially liked that there were sinks located inside the room, so you didn’t have to leave to get ready for the day. The bathrooms were located just outside the room, while the showers and laundry facilities were conveniently located on the bottom floor of the hostel.
The hostel also had a great lounge area downstairs where you could relax and chat with other travelers. The staff were incredibly friendly and offered lots of recommendations for things to do and places to eat nearby. The nearest subway station was less than a 10-minute walk away, making it easy to get around Kyoto. I also appreciated the free umbrella rentals on rainy days and the free luggage storage before check-in and after check-out.
I want to give a special shoutout to Oytun! He was so helpful during my stay and gave me so many amazing local recommendations. It truly became one of the highlights of my trip. I had an amazing stay here and would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Kyoto!
Amazing hostel in Kyoto with clean facilities, a great social atmosphere, helpful staff, and excellent local recommendations—special thanks to Oytun for making my stay unforgettable!
