This was such a beautiful and clean hostel! My husband and I booked a private room, which was very small, but it was comfortable, and we had our own sink. The bathrooms were readily available, and we never had difficulties finding a shower. My son stayed in a dorm room and said he slept better there than he had the whole trip. I appreciate hostels, because I like having a refrigerator and kitchen available for my use. This one was never crowded. The location was within close walking distance to Kyoto Station, but it was tucked into a quiet corner without a lot of outside noise.
Although the hostel was conveniently located to Kyoto Station, it was rather inconveniently located for most of the sightseeing that we had planned. We had to take 2 trains or a train and a bus to reach most popular tourist spots (Nijo Castle, Gion, Nishiki Market, Pontocho Alley, etc.), and on more than one occasion we chose to order an Uber rather than waiting in the long bus line.

Very Good
Space had a somewhat "just works" atmosphere. Communal spaces were nice to hang out it, facilities were really clean, staff was nice. Location was the biggest seller for us, but everything else about our stay lived up to the same level of satisfaction for us.

Extremely comfy beds, clean facilities that were well stocked, kind and helpful staff, and conveniently located a 5 minute walk from Kyoto station.
If they store your luggage, it just sits out in the lounge

Very Good
- location: close to train station and shinkansen, quiet area
- bathroom: right in front of our room, nicely close
- staff: kind and helpful, spoke english and stored our bags before check-in and after check-out
- facilities: during our stay, the elevator was broken down, which did not make the third floor climb up and down great. however, they did offer a soft drink on the house and offered to carry our luggages up.
- showers: only located on the ground floor, a bit awkward to go from the third floor and have to push a buttom constantly to keep the waterflow

Great location, nice facilities, and good public space for eating and making tea. They have a grooming room for post shower activities, which significantly enhances the experience. Great value.
Staff was a bit pushy when asking to fill out the survey at check out. It should be made more flexible and completely optional, especially if guest has tight schedule at check out.

Very Good
The place was nice & clean, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The staff at the front desk were constantly tending to the common areas to ensure they were in great shape despite very heavy use. It was appreciated! The common areas are also well appointed with tea, coffee, and every kitchen tool you will need, including a shared refrigerator. The bathrooms were also well cared-for and quite a good arrangement given they were shared facilities. It was very helpful that there was a sink in the room so that things like teeth brushing could take place there instead of clogging up the common facilities.
The wall-mounted "air conditioning" / fan unit in the room was not very good. It would blow air but there was very little cooling. We opened the window to cool it off a bit, but since it was screenless, couldn't leave it open overnight. As we were there in early April when it was relatively cool, I expect this might be a strong consideration in warmer months.
The showers have a push button water flow control, so you have to re-press the button every minute or so. Otherwise they were clean and lovely, but that feature was annoying.
The room is super tiny, which is probably how the price point is possible. They've done well to make the small space functional, but you won't want to spend much time there. Fortunately the common spaces and surrounding area are wonderful, so it is not an issue!
Also, this was the only place in Japan where we experienced noise at night and it was due to tourists staying at the Piece Hostel hunkering down in the courtyard and loudly carrying on until 2 in the morning. Of course, this behaviour was due to these guests, not the Hostel itself, but it would have been nice if night staff could have shut that down or perhaps limit access to the outdoor common area at night. I wonder if this is a recurring issue given the number of signs we saw in the area asking for nighttime quiet.

Very clean facility with really nice staff! Communicating with the staff was not an issue and they even went above and beyond to help us with contacting our next hotel and shipping our luggage. The shared bathrooms were also more spacious and clean than I expected them to be. The location is also hard to beat. I would definitely book again.

This was by far our favorite hostel to stay in Kyoto. It was clean and the staff was so awesome. We lost a parcel on a train one day and they helped us find it with success!
Nothing. Truly a gem!!
