Good
Nice property with spacious rooms. They are going to be closing for two years for a complete remodel Dec 2026 as the rooms do look a bit tired and dated.
The location was a huge disappointment! The closest train station at least a 10 minute walk. There are very few restaurants near by as it is mostly residential. Yes, the Imperial Palace is close but don’t base where to stay on that. You only walk around the exterior anyways. We felt so far removed and spent so much extra time traveling by train to get to other areas of Kyoto. It’s nothing against the hotel but as they say in real estate, location, location, location…

Was able to connect my iphone to wifi but unable to get my ipad to connect.. Tried several times, worked ice p once but could not reconnect even when iphone shared the password. Never happened before and works in all other hotels.

Very Good
The reception area and atrium style of the main area which included a coffee lounge was good. Very relaxing having a coffee and cake. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room wise, good sized room and bathroom included bath, shower that was not inside the bath. Bath and shower enclosed. Accessories such as weight scales also included. Coffee bar well equipped.
Mostly all ok. If you are venturing outside the hotel, you have a bit of a walk (15+ minutes) to train stations, though there are plenty of taxis which wait at the hotel. The hotel also supplies a free shuttle throughout the day to/from a local train station. There is not a lot of shops or restaurants immediately around the hotel should you want to try something other than the inhouse dining and did not want to be bothered with transport.

The hotel is just a 10 minute walk to the large Imperial grounds, but it is also on a quiet street. There’s also a subway station within a 15 minute walk.

The staff were truly wonderful. The restaurants served high-quality food. The shuttle service was exceptional.
While the staff and service were wonderful, my actual room was uncomfortable due to being very outdated. The rooms could use renovation and modernizations, as could the toiletries offered.

All four restaurants have amazing food. Japanese, Teppanyaki, Cantonese or the French-ish buffet are all excellent and offer lovely set courses for lunch and dinner. Lounge is also relaxing with beautiful cakes and has seasonal dessert sets.

Very Good
The Christmas trees and piano music were unexpected and thoroughly enjoyed.
The service was truly excellent especially in the staff's efforts to provide a more comfortable bed for me.
We appreciated all of the selections with which to enjoy our breakfast.
The concierge was extremely kind in assisting us in going out for dinner to one of our favorite places in Kyoto.
The Japanese restaurant was wonderful on our previous visit and we look forward to enjoying it again next time we stay. We live in Kyoto so we frequently enjoy the Brighton.
We were disappointed with the 2nd floor rooms that came with the price that we chose. The room size, bathroom size, bed firm/softness, and the seemingly uncontrollable heating system (even though we turned it off, it continued to be too hot) were all less than expected. For example, use of the bathroom had to be limited to one person.
We were really hoping to have Eggs Benedict for breakfast but that was not on the menu in the buffet.
We were shocked to see the disappearance of the Christmas tree the morning after Christmas. We were so glad to have come for the 25th instead of the 26 for our overnighter. But we also enjoyed seeing the tallest New Year's traditional wrapped bamboo display in the country!!!!
Frankly, we were disappointed with the menu, the size of each serving, and the service in the Chinese restaurant. Condequetly, we did not return to it on this trip. It was unlike a great Chinese restaurant such as is available at other great hotels in Kyoto, such as at the Nikko Princess Hotel or the Miyako Hotel north of the station, and the Prince Takaragaike. Chinese restaurants are at their best when they do not attempt to imitate a French style of enormous plates with a speck of food hardly visible in the middle.

Wonderful staff, elegant lobby and lounge areas, very good restaurants with delicious food offerings in house. The rooms are clean and very well kept.
No gym, no onsen, no indoor pool. It’s not easily accessible through public transportation.

Everything was really outstanding. Staff were very helpful. breakfast was incredible and the room was so spacious!
Everything was really perfect. It is not a central location however, it was quiet and so lovely. Worth the extra minutes to travel certain places.

Convenient, excellent food, and great staff. Good price as well when added to room fee.
Perhaps vary food selection at breakfast through week for those staying longer term.

The staff and the service they provided was excellent. While the hotel was an older style, it was not lacking in comfort and quality. Since we traveled to Kyoto by car, the location was ideal as it was far enough to be away from the maddening crowds of Kyoto. Plus as many hotels in Kyoto do not having their own car park, the hotel’s spacious underground parking made our stay even better. Oh, and the hotel has a free shuttle service to get you close to the city center.
Being an older hotel, it did not the ramps you would need for a baby stroller (in our case) or a wheelchair.

Breakfast was the wonderful assortment that we always come back for. Staff is always polite and courteous. Our family of 6 were assigned 3 rooms next to each other, in a nice quiet corner; we appreciate that.
One couple in our family missed one reserved night due to technical flight issue; the hotel staff would not give us a break for that night; though we now understand that it was due to our booking through a travel agency (Booking.com)

Wonderful
Staff were excellent, efficient, and fulfilled expectations of a first class hotel
While breakfast was above average, serving the same food every morning for five days was most disappointing..
Surely the Chef and team can demonstrate their excellence and innovative menus. I stay at hotels over 100 days/year, and at quality places the buffet changes sometimes every day but certaibly every 2-3 days concerning 2-4 food items. What this tells me is that the food and beverage staff are complacent and rather lazy by serving the same items at breafast day after day. They must do better

We appreciate the quietness of the neighborhood. Rooms were well appointed and very clean. Breakfast was a hit with our family since all tastes were satisfied.
One couple in our group had flight delay and missed one night at the hotel, but the hotel charged us for that night.

Very comfy and rooms were really good with separate dinning table and pantry on other side
I can say location is bit far and also the shuttle service should be extended to Kyoto Main Railways station
