Great location. Close to a wide variety of restaurants, and the running path along the river. The Japanese style breakfast was delicious.
The reading lights beside the bed were positioned at a height for Japanese style beds, bot were too close to the floor to be useful in my Western style room.

It was an amazing experience to stay at a traditional Japanese Ryokan especially that we stayed in a traditional Japanese room with Futon beds. I would highly recommend this experience. It is surprisingly comfortable.

Very Good
Great location and staff.
The room smelled bad, like a mixture of bleach and the Tami mats. It was pretty overwhelming, but you could tell it was from cleaning and not neglect.

Very Good
Friendly staff, warm welcome, willing to help
Traditional, but with the right amount of comodities
The price you pay is higher than at a normal hotel. But the experience itself does not require that much money because you sleep on the floor. So why charge so much?
My lower back wasn't happy the next day after sleeping on the thin futon beds.

Pleasant
The staff were very welcoming and cordial, making efforts to be of assistance. The property was located within walking distance of several attractions and a short cab ride from others. The kitchen staff promptly served us breakfast each day and put fresh ice in our water bottles.
The room was barely larger than the bed, which made it very awkward to move around with our luggage on the floor. My wife and I had to coordinate our movements in the room in order for the other to reach the closet or the bathroom. Also, the general atmosphere around the property seemed more like a youth hostel than a mid-priced hotel.

Very Good
The room was very large and the staff were very friendly. The location was walkable to multiple points of interest in Kyoto. It provided a good atmosphere of a traditional ryokan but with modern amenities.
Honestly, it was significantly more modern than I was expecting, and I was hoping for something more traditional as an experience. This modernness could be a pro for other travelers.

The location. It’s walkable to most of the tourists attractions. 10-15 min walk to pontocho alley and Kamo River area.

I liked that it seemed traditional even if it is being run by foreigners.
It seemed too expensive for what it was. It was nice but not worth the amount then you still had to pay on top of that to use the facilities.

Good
Great Japanese breakfast, solid location, and nice spacious common areas.
This is more a mashup of a hotel w elements of a hostel (common areas where travellers can hang out and share stories) than a ryokan. The only ryokan part of it is being in a tiny room sleeping on the floor. It looks like an investor bought the property and branded it as a “ryokan-style” place to jam in more chargeable rooms than typical hotels w beds would otherwise permit. If you want a ryokan experience, look elsewhere. If you’re ok sleeping on the floor in a solid location with decent amenities and a great Japanese breakfast, this fits the bill.

The room was beautiful with everything we needed to set up futons on the floor for our 12 year old. The sliding walls closed up to give her total privacy while we slept on the comfortable bed! The staff was very helpful and friendly. We did the Tea Ceremony and Kimono experience which were both outstanding! There were several restaurants within walking distance.
Everything was great. We enjoyed the private bath which was on the main floor. We had to book an appointment to use it and it was nice.
