The best part of the Rinn Gion Hanatouro was the front desk staff - very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and things to do versus things to avoid. She was always very honest when we had questions and air dropped us recommendations!
The rooms could use a little TLC; the carpets were coming undone where they connected to the entrance of the room, and the bathroom had loose tiles in the shower and black gunk (hopefully not mold) on the wooden tub.

Beautiful hotel, excellent location close to restaurants, shopping, train station and very walkable. Helpful staff and a room for 4 that had everything that we could possibly need. Will recommend this hotel to friends.

Reception staff was amazingly helpful and kind. LOVED the location. In historic area, on quiet street, but walking distance to public transportation and shops. LOVED the ability to do laundry for free, but we were too busy to use it! LOVED the wooden bathtub, abut never got a chance to use that either.
Our sink drained slowly, but was taken care of quickly after we notified staff.

Fantastic little boutique hotel located right in Gion area of Kyoto. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Very cozy with nice rooms. The location is perfect.

Very nice new small hotel in the heart of Gion, staff was so very nice and would go out of their way to help you. Most staff members spoke very good English. Bathroom was very nice with deep tub and wonderful shower head. Traditional Japanese bathroom with toilet in a separate room and sink in yet another.
Location was a bit of a walk to train station but bus stops were close by although kind of hard to figure out which bus to get on!!! Must have IC card or exact change, very cheap to ride bus, only 220 yen a person. Taxi to Kyoto Station was kind of expensive, about 1900 yen one way, but so worth it when you are exhausted!!! Also only one BBC news channel on TV in English although pretty entertaining to watch the Japanese shows!!!

The bathrooms were very nice. Proximity to train stations and major tourist destinations was also very convenient. The staff is what stole the show for us, we found ourselves chatting and taking recommendations often. The balcony was a nice touch and being able to do laundry was really helpful.

The location is perfect. Right in Gion, but very quiet. Plenty of options to eat around. Many temples within walking distance. Two train lines stop nearby - although with Kyotos underdeveloped public transport you will still have to take a bus to reach many central locations. Buses in Kyoto are slow and never on time, be prepared to use taxis. The staff were exceptionally helpful, giving good local recommendations and helping in any way they could. There was a wooden bath in my room (in addition to a shower).
The air conditioning was loud. There is no breakfast, but many options nearby, and the hotel staff will give you good recommendations.
