Wonderful
Onsen, meals, view (spectacular view of Mt Fuji one morning); staff were very pleasant and helpful. it was nice to have both french and japanese meal options, and both were excellent for both breakfast and lunch.

Ground of the hotel are stunning. Azaleas and Rhododendrons were in bloom making for a dramatic view against the lake and mount fuji backdrop. Onsen was large, well equipped, clean. Staff was spectacular. Shuttle to Motohakone was were frequent and comfortable.
Restaurant options were limited for those with dietary preferences or restrictions and breakfast ended around 9:30.

Exceptional
I chose this hotel for its proximity to Lake Ashi and the Hakone Shrine Tori gate, and the public onsen with open-air bath (women only). The hotel has old world traditional charm and elegance. My room had a lovely view of the garden and lake from the window. Had the Japanese dinner option which was well varied, and I felt adventurous getting to try a sea snail for the first time. If you book this hotel with the dinner option, ensure that you communicate with the hotel staff with plenty of time ahead of your visit to reserve a time. Most places close very early in Hakone, so I felt the dinner option at the hotel was worth it. Chose the French restaurant for breakfast, which had a smaller, limited selection, but was satisfying. For others' awareness, several of the staff do not speak English, which personally made for a fun experience of getting to try out the Japanese I studied. Everyone was kind and helpful. The onsen was very calming and great to try if you want to become acquainted with Japanese onsen culture, just make sure you follow the guidelines to maintain a clean and calming environment for everyone (no clothing in the baths area, shower thoroughly before enjoying a dip in the hot spring baths, tie up your hair, etc) There are plenty of amenities available, including hair bands, shower caps, hair brush, etc, and stations to dry your hair after the bath. The shuttle is very convenient and I made use of it to get to the hotel from Motohakone Port (bus stop #6 next to the pirate ship area) and to get back to town to catch a bus to Hakone-Yumoto Station. Though it was one of the pricier stays in my trip itinerary, it was an excellent stay and I have no complaints!

My stay at the Odakyu Hotel de Yama was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the serene atmosphere and the hotel’s stunning location overlooking Lake Ashi with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji.
The rooms were large, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, offering both comfort and elegance. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring the Hakone area. Waking up to such beautiful scenery right outside the window made the experience even more memorable.
Breakfast was another highlight of the stay, fresh, delicious, and with a great variety of options to start the day right. Enjoying a morning meal while taking in the peaceful lake views was truly special.
What really sets this hotel apart is its incredible setting. The panoramic views of the lake and Mount Fuji are simply unforgettable and create a sense of tranquility that is hard to match.
I would highly recommend Odakyu Hotel de Yama to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with beautiful surroundings, excellent accommodations, and top-quality service.

Very Good
A comfortable hotel surrounded by extensive gardens. Unfortunately, we were too early for the azaleas and rhododendrons' to be in bloom. It must be spectacular when they are.

Wonderful
Every room views the lake, and the room was spacious and cozy. One could make a day of just relaxing in the room overlooking the garden and the lake, taking in meals, onsen time, or a walk by the lake along the stone paths.
The town closes at 5, and we arrived late. Food options were limited to 7-Eleven in town, or room service sans a reservation to one of the hotel restaurants. Planning dinner ahead of time is a must.

Fantastic view of Lake Aisha and snow-covered Mount Fuji, with surrounding hills. Quiet, lovely setting. Very nice, separate thermal pools and saunas for women and men. Pretty rooms and building, with a helpful staff, make this a wonderful retreat within the Hakone hills.

Beautiful view of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji. We were there in February, so the 3,000 azalea and rhododendron bushes were NOT in bloom, but it will be out of this world gorgeous when they bloom!!
Lovely onsen on site, cute robes and clothing to wear to and from the onsens.
Front desk staff SO helpful
Yummy breakfast with attentive staff
restaurants in the nearby town close at 3:00 PM this time of year, so we had to drive a fair distance for dinners

Poor
View from the window was nice
Restaurants are awful, food is not good and costly, absolutely unacceptable behavior from the staff at restaurant, particulary supervisor that was aggressively rude. French restaurant is "no go". If you want to avoid bad expereince try your best to avoid this restaurant and stay at an alternative hotel.

This hotel was one of our Japan trip highlights. We loved the hotel, food, onsen and view. It is definitely worth the stay. Excellent costumer service, having the shuttle bus was very convenient to tour the Hakone Attractions. We were unlucky to have cloudy days and were not able to see Fuji during the daytime, however our stay saved the Mt Fuji view as we were able to see it straight from our hotel window at sunset and sunrise.
we liked everything
