The hotel had a good mix of modern and traditional settings with mostly traditional! The public and private baths are both beautiful designed and one with nature.

Wonderful
Lovely spa resort with feasts for meals. We had an outdoor tub with a deck facing the forest. The private onsen was a sweet experience.

I would give this stay an 11/10 if I could. It was easily our favorite experience in Japan. The highlight was the three outdoor private onsens set right in nature. They were absolutely incredible and a must-do! The food (both breakfast and dinner) was exceptional, and our room was spotless, quiet, and featured a lovely balcony view. On top of that, the staff was incredibly friendly, the massages were wonderful, and the amenities were top-tier. We also loved the beautiful yukatas we were able to rent. Everything was perfect!

The location was beautiful - each window framed a green forest view. The room was exactly as shown with snacks and coffee provided in the room and in the lobby. . The private onsens were lovely. The meals were exceptional. Staff were wonderful. Quiet, restive, restorative - Overall a wonderful experience. Will visit again.

Building was immaculate and well maintained. The hot spring areas were lovely and very relaxing. The hotel is embedded in nature making the views from the hotel really nice and relaxing.

We liked the options for private onsens and the size of the rooms. Was a peaceful atmosphere at the Mizunoto.
During check-in it was not communicated to us about needing to reserve a table for dinner. All reservations were booked up with no options around the ryokan for dinner. When we asked the staff what for suggestions in the area, they said “there was nothing around”.

The rooms are very comfortable and clean. I realize it's a cultural difference, but I would have appreciated black out curtains for the windows. This is not a deal breaker for me. The 2 Onsens were both very nice; very clean; enjoyable. As westerners, we found the Japanese breakfasts not very much to our taste. Clearly very well prepared, but eating a lot of fish first thing in the morning is not that appealing. I'm sure that the Japanese customers loved it. Appreciated the coffee in the lobby. Property is located in a nice setting within walking distance of 2 train stations and some local attractions. Recommend.
Would have preferred some different options for breakfast. Would have appreciated black out curtains for the windows.

Staff were very accommodating. Kaiseki dinners were great, with the kitchen staff explaining everything perfectly.
Onsens (both private and public) were great, with complimentary refreshments being a great bonus (coffee milk, yakult, ice cream). Massages were incredibly rejuvenating, and easily booked via the front-desk.
Shuttle bus from the ryokan to the station was incredibly convenient.
Minor complaint - the private onsens have an indicator for whether they are occupied or not. Unfortunately, the indicators depend on the other guests locking the door to the onsen when they are using it. I walked down the outdoor path to the furthest onsen in the rain only to discover that a family was occupying it - they had forgotten to lock the door. Having a way to force other guests to activate the indicators before they can use the private onsens would be great.

Gorgeous facilities and super kind staff. The rooms were serene. I loved the private onsen. We came for our honeymoon and they even left us a special note and gift. Very thoughtful.

Poor
Staff was wonderful. Also liked the lobby and grounds. The property is located next to beautiful public gardens, which were lovely for morning walks.
A significant amount of mold in the toilet room, shower grout and shower door seal, and in the private onsen. The room smelled musty. There was also a sewage smell in both the lobby toilets and room toilet area.
