The hotel was excellent and so relaxing yet modern. Loved the atmosphere.
Rooms were huge and they gave you a kimono and everything. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Would recommend!
As I've noticed before booking it is not the very best location so you will need busses, trains or taxi to get around. If you plan a day trip it will be a bit of a challenge, if you have heavy backpacks. But if you're there for a day and a half stopping to drop off your bags won't disrupt your atinerary. The hotel is amazing.

The hotel onsens (especially the outdoor one) were amazing. Was a little skeptical to book at first as I wasn't really comfortable being naked in front of strangers, but every time I went to bathe there were no other guests at all! I guess because the hotel only had 13 rooms and maybe only half the rooms were occupied when we stayed.
If you're like me and the onsens are occupied, you can opt to go to Yunessun (hot spring theme park) which is only a 3-minute walk away and enjoy your onsens while wearing a swimsuit! The hotel provides free tickets for each day of hotel stay including on the day you check in. So this means you can spend the day at the theme park while waiting for check in time at 3pm. The hotel room was VERY spacious and comfortable. The pictures they uploaded here simply does not do it justice. I reckon it could've fit around 5 people, but we were only a group of 3. I also loved how accommodating the receptionist was and how considerate of them to confirm our allergies and religious restrictions prior to preparing our breakfast.
Getting there is a 28 bus stop away from Odawara Station and buses aren't that frequent. The hotel is very near the bus stop, but you have to climb down a steep, slippery slope. Wouldn't recommend bringing big luggage. We regretted not sending our luggage straight to our next destination and just pack a smaller backpack for our stay here.

The dining room wasn't available, so breakfast was provided for us to take to our rooms. The breakfast was fairly western style (pastries, salad and yoghurt) and wasn't very filling. The free entry to the Yunessan resort was excellent though!

The in-house onsen is small but beautiful. There's an option for indoor and outdoor. No in-house sauna, though. However, they provide you with free access to another onsen nearby that's huge with several bath options and a sauna. The location is close to a bus stop and is walkable to the nearest train station. Dinner was served in a different establishment, close to the other big onsen. Breakfast was pre-packaged and we were told to bring it to our room.
I was expecting a full Japanese experience, including tatami bed, but I got a western style bed instead. The bed was very comfortable, don't get me wrong. But it wasn't what I expected before.

WiFi doesn’t really work in my room. This hotel hardly has any facility and rely on ally with other hotel and from that perspective I think they over priced.

Staff went above and beyond to try and communicate the best they could with us. Booking the private bath was very easy and enjoyable. The entrance is on a slope so it might be difficult for some guests, although in my opinion if you have trouble with this slope Hakone in general will be difficult.

Price- If you calculate it: 3.5k/head ticket to yunessun plus a 4 course dinner Yakiniku approx 5k, it’s still the most affordable option out of all the hotels. We are 2 adults and an infant.
Ambience- our room itself doesnt give you authentic japanese because we did not have futon but did have tatami which our baby had fun crawling in lol. Though they have special rooms that do for a higher price. They have a wonderful inner garden and the outside is beautiful.
Onsen - they have one outdoor onsen for each gender. I’d say it could only comfortably fit 4 people but it does give you that relaxing nature view as long as you pick hours that isnt crowded. The little private one costs an additional 1k+ and is a tub made out of retro tiles. In my opinion the outdoor was better. I was able to come in exactly as it opened so was able to snap a shot without people. Phones are not allowed in the public
Meals - no resto inside. Breakfast is 3 kinds of bread each head, yogurt, salad, and you get to choose your own drink to take to your room. But dont be discouraged by amount of bread they provide because they tasted amazing! Dinner was delicious too! We just hated the dessert because it tasted like soap.
Yunessun- this made our stay the best! The lack of a big outdoor onsen the hotel had, yunessun made up for it! It will forever be etched in my mind. The naked outdoor one was exactly as i hoped for with multiple levels, the themed ones were fun and we were the temp was tolerable enough for baby to have fun! We were just short on time because although it says it closes at 8pm, they start closing the pools at 6pm so be early! Better head to yunessun before hotel check in time. Just leave your things in the hotel reception and go strsight to yunessun! as you can access it even before check in time. The place is huge! One can easily spend a day here. The relaxation area in the 5th floor was just WOW!
Location - high up in the mountains and best if you have car. Even if you have a car, you will be required to walk from the parking to the entrance. A short walk on a slope and will not be easy with heavy luggages. It is also a 4 min drive away from Hakone open air museum (also amazing!). You will also pass by a beautiful train track with autumn foliage in the backdrop and piping mountains so do yourself a favor and bring out that phone once you ascend the mountains en route to the hotel.
Room facilities - one of our bed sheets had a stain, so we slept in one bed only. We luckily got a room with a bathroom. However, it shares the toilet and the toilet emitted an unpleasant smell. The fridge is also quite loud so consider this if you are a light sleeper. We didnt mind these quite a lot anyways cause we still had fun.

Very quiet and scenic hotel in Hakone. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room included use of the local onsen where you can wear a swimming costume and a Japanese bbq at a local restaurant which we really enjoyed. Beds were comfortable and the room was lovely. There is a traditional onsen but we didn’t use these facilities. The surrounding area is just stunning.
Bit of a trek to get to. From the train station it’s a good 15/20 minute walk uphill- with two big suitcases this was fun. The bathroom was a bit dated and the shower curtain was a bit mouldy.

The room was clean and spacious.
The reception staff was helpful and friendly.
The onsen was ok.
The free entrance to YUNESSUN and Motoyu Mori no Yu (Onsen area) for hotel guests (a few minutes walk from the hotel along the main road though) was a big bonus.
The included breakfast was so so.
The small road connecting the hotel to the main road was steep and rough - not too suitcase friendly.

Wonderful
We loved the room, it was so authentically japanese, lots of space and the beds were comfortable. The opportunity to book the private onsen was wonderful. It was a very relaxing place to stay. Gorgeous area - with the forests just at the front.
Food options were pretty limited, would have been good to have some options to order simple snacks and dinner. Many places were closed or did not deliver. We wanted to enjoy the hotel and relax in the beautiful space but needed to head out to find food.

The room was large, comfortable and very clean. Traditional Japanese style but with western beds. During our stay the Ryokan was pretty empty so we enjoyed both Women's and Men's Onsen without anyone there and it was a very relaxing experience. The outside Onsen was lovely and the washing area was very clean. We have nothing negative to say about the facilities.
We used the private Onsen as well (for an additional fee) and it was larger than expected, very clean, but it's an indoor Onsen so the heat was almost too much to handle, especially in September but it was still a good experience overall.
The receptionist spoke little English but was well prepared, everything was printed out in English and easy to understand.
The Ryokan offers free entry to a water park (just a 5 minute walk from the Ryokan) but we had other plans and didn't take advantage of this offer. Hopefully next time. We did however go there for our dinner since the Ryokan cafeteria is closed and instead they offer a prepaid meal with dessert in a nearby restaurant. Yakitori (table grill) - everything was very tasty and fresh, we left full and satisfied. The staff at the restaurant spoke perfect English and explained everything well.
We also loved the location. We came to the Ryokan from Owakudani using a bus (not covered by Hakone Free Pass) and in the morning walked to the Open Air Museum (15-20 min walk from the Ryokan). There's also a beautiful little flower garden right next to the Onsen.
We would definitely come back here again.
We didn't like that our meal was in another location. After relaxing in the Onsen and wearing Yukatas we had to change back to regular clothes and walk to the restaurant. We still really enjoyed our stay here but changing clothes and going elsewhere wasn't ideal.
We also thought that the lighting in the private Onsen could be a bit more relaxing and dimmer. A few candles wouldn't hurt. The lighting is perfect in the Public Onsens.
