Wonderful
Locanda Al Leon is a wonderful, charming, comfortable place to stay in Venice that we enjoyed very much during our 3-night stay in September. [It is also one of the accommodations recommended by Rick Steves]. While it's very conveniently located close to St. Mark's Square and only a 4-minute walk from the San Marco-San Zaccaria Vaporetto stop, it's also quiet and nicely located just off the delightful plaza Campo Santi Filippo e Giacomo that has some good restaurants, bars and bakeries. [We especially enjoyed Ristorante Pizzeria Pesciolino D'oro just around the corner as well as the bakery Pasticceria Bonifacio.] The staff is wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Our "room" was the entire, very spacious top floor of the nearby Ca Marcella annex and included a good-sized, beautiful bedroom, nice modern bathroom, living room w/ sofa, full kitchen and TWO private balconies, each with a table & chairs (& one had a view St. Mark's Basilica rooftop)! The balconies were a perfect place to enjoy a late-night glass of wine under the stars w/ a peaceful view of the Venetian rooftops. A nice, very adequate continental breakfast was available each morning on the top floor of the main hotel building and was a much-appreciated amenity. For us, Locanda Al Leon was a fantastic find for our stay in Venice and we would definitely stay again!
Like most accommodations in Venice, Locanda Al Leon doesn't have an elevator and most rooms are accessible only by a flight or two (or three!!) of stairs. Carrying your luggage up can be a challenge but thankfully the hotel's staff is very kind and helpful in assisting. Provided you able, the stairs were a small price to pay for such wonderful accommodations!

I was a little nervous about booking a room at this hotel, but it was great in the end. I couldn't even find it initially as it is very unassuming. The location was really fantastic though, and it had everything I was looking for-clean, comfortable, well located.
I have a couple nitpicks... I didn't see any way to mark the room "do not enter" so a cleaning person did try to come in (after knocking and calling out, in fairness). The desk is open 8am to 9pm which could be a problem if you need to leave early or have a problem late. Wasn't an issue for me though. I thought it was drafty the first night but soon realized I hadn't closed the door to the balcony.

We had a 3rd floor room. The steps up to the room were very steep. This was mentioned in the hotel information but I didn’t think it would be as difficult to manage. Also I didn’t like that the desk was not attended after 8:00 pm.

I stayed at Locanda Al Leon by myself in early May in a charming room with 2 single beds on the 3rd floor of the hotel overlooking the bustling courtyard below. The room was modest, but clean. Everything I needed. The building is incredibly charming as it was built sometime in the 1400's. Most importantly, the staff, all of the staff, including the woman and her son that own the hotel, are the sweetest, most gracious people, and because of their kindness and hospitality, I would return to Locanda anytime in the future to Venice. Location is quite literally the best, imo, in all of Venice near to San Marco and the water. Def recommend.

Location was fantastic and the room was roomy for 2 people sharing.
We were in room 25 and it was noisy until 10:30pm hearing dishes being done somewhere. Also found out the other 2 rooms had a kettle we did not.

Traditional, well appointed hotel close to St Mark’s Square. Staff always responsive and helpful. Numerous restaurants in the area, including “fixed price” menus. Blue boat station San Zaccaria very short walking distance from hotel, all level and no stairs on way.
