The staff was excellent and the breakfast was amazing. The room was very nice, but loud! Location was super.
The neighborhood felt a little gritty, but it was a city. Outside/neighborhood noise was very noticeable in the room.

Less than a block from the Norman Palace and only a few steps more to the Palermo Cathedral and pedestrianized streets of Palermo, Porta di Castro is close to everything the old city has to offer. The hotel has been built into an old church, and is filled with interesting artifacts, including paintings, statuary, and vintage vespas. Our room, too, was decorated, the bed was comfortable, and we enjoyed sitting on our balcony. The breakfasts are enormous: pastries, eggs, fruit, yoghurt, breads, cheese, meats, as well as such local treats as fried rice balls and breads filled with more meats, cheeses, peas, etc. Meanwhile, the owner, Alessandro, serves as many espressos, cappuccinos, and/or americanos as anyone could ever wish for. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and speaks excellent English. We did not want to leave!

Excellent. The location is perfect as it is in the center of town.
The breakfast is a feast. You must eat breakfast here.
The owner is there and is extremely friendly. The staff is awesome.
The mixture of old and new inside the building is beautiful.
We were in Sicily for 15 days. Our first stay was here. We then toured Sicily. We cancelled the hotel we were suppose to stay at the end of our trip so we could stay here.

beautifully decorated property with large rooms and wonderful breakfast. we were warmly greeted and parked our car for a fee.
room fridge was not in working mode and television did not work. gave notice to front desk before leaving property for long dinner, to find nothing had been looked at. manager on duty did get fridge working but tv would have to wait until the next day, but since we were only there over night that was not a satisfactory solution.

The ceiling was far too low. I bumped my forehead on it several times, including once during the night, which left a noticeable bump. This is difficult to anticipate from the angles shown in the room photos. I would expect the staff to warn guests to be especially careful at night when they are half asleep. There were also no lamps on the bedside tables; having one would help remind guests to turn it on when waking at night to use the restroom.

The property is absolutely amazing. The history in the building is spectacular dating back 1000 years. The owner who did all the reconstruction on the building was pleased to show us around his property. It took him 10 years to build. He was clearly very proud of his property and rightfully so. We’ll definitely be back.
Loved it all. One of the coolest places we’ve ever stayed.

The welcome from the staff and the owner was excellent, informative and friendly.
We were shown around the property with a brief commentary about the building history and it's conversion into a hotel.
The pool area was a rare oasis for a city centre hotel.
Breakfast was amazing, generous with a huge variety and served by friendly and attentive staff.
Overall an excellent experience. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is located in the city center, close to everything. Special and surprising design. Clean and comfortable room. Our terrace faced an internal courtyard. Sicilian breakfast is served generously. Everything is fresh and delicious. Excellent coffee and authentic and delicious cakes....

Wonderful
The owner, Alessandro, was present on-site every day of our stay and was always walking around and checking in with guests. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and had really memorable touches. It feels homey while still indulgent, and is exceptional value for money. The decor is so complementary to the region, and is unique rather than the one-size-fits-all approach - there is clearly passion for creativity, and the character of the spaces really shines. The architecture of the 15th-century church is preserved, and we loved seeing the original features in our room and common areas. The pool is perfect for a dip and relaxing in, and is big enough for exercise. The breakfast provided was beyond our expectations! Fresh fruit, local pastries, and an assortment of cheeses and cured meats. The staff made us special coffees and were attentive to all of our needs. Extremely convenient location that is close walking proximity to the main strip while feeling a little off the beaten path.

The property has many great features!
- Location (walk just a few minutes to the central historical centre)
- a wonderful hotel based within the walls of a 500 year old church. Lots of ambiance and really cool decor!
- room was very well appointed, clean and comfortable. Also had a mini fridge which was very handy.
- Breakfast: simply fabulous with a wide variety of items served. The fresh fruit tray is awesome! More than plentiful!!
- Pool: a great treat after a long and hot day of touring!
Finally and most importantly is the staff! I can’t say more about how wonderful all the staff is. From Alessandro (the owner), to Rosanna (front desk) and all staff. Wonderfully helpful and accommodating. As an example - I asked for an extension to my checkout time. They let me stay until 4?pm. No issues and no extra charge.
These are the small things that are BIG things. Thank you for making my stay and first time in Sicily so wonderful!

They put a large selection of food on your table for breakfast. I would sooner just pick the items I want myself. The fruit was not very ripe. The staff are all very nice and helpful.

What a find! This is such a quirky location originally a church then a mosque (with remnants of both still evident in exposed tiles and stone work) tucked away in the centre of Palermo. The staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Even if driving to the hotel through the narrow streets of Palermo has raised your blood pressure, worry not about car parking as Alexandro is adept at manoeuvring all guests’ vehicles in the hotel’s secure, hidden and very local lock up. Just a few seconds’ walk take you to their private and shady swimming pool. An inviting option on a sweltering summer’s day.
Nothing really! Be ready for HUGE breakfasts which we finished during the day for our lunch and snacks. A little difficult to hang wet towels as I assume the old building prevents hooks etc. on walls but the room’s cleaned each day and towels/sheets replaced so not a real problem

Fantastic small tucked away hotel where every nook and cranny oozes with charm. Cannot have enough kind words for the owner (Alessandro) and the rest of the staff. If you like a beige boring hotel experience, this is not the hotel for you. If you are not dead inside, you will love this hotel.
If you are driving to the hotel, it is quite difficult to get to, the hotel will provide you with exact instructions, follow them!

Wonderful stay at this hotel in the middle of town. The staff treated us so well, and the rooms were nice and large for our family. The pool was a welcome break from the heat of the day, and the breakfast was simply spectacular. We had never been treated to such a huge feast every morning. A very nice stay in a colorful vibrant city.
