I booked this accommodation on Booking.com as a hotel, but the experience was more consistent with staying in a hostel. The accommodation turned out to be associated with Ostello Bello.
When I arrived, the receptionist did not even recognise the name Hotel Merlini. I had to leave the building and contact the accommodation via WhatsApp to clarify where I was supposed to stay. Even the management initially asked whether I meant the hostel rather than the hotel. It subsequently emerged that, according to the hostel manager, Ostello Bello had acquired Hotel Merlini approximately 18 months earlier.
Access to the building presented another unexpected problem. The electronic key was linked to an email address registered in the Ostello Bello user community, so I was required to join the hostel's network to open the door. I did not want to register with the hostel or provide my personal data for this purpose, but the receptionist told me that registration was mandatory.
Although my room (Room 309) was a double room with a private bathroom, there was also a shared toilet immediately next to it. In the evening, I could hear everything happening in that toilet. Additionally, there was an unpleasant toilet odour in the corridor, possibly due to inadequate ventilation.

A great location, close to the station and easy to access the city by foot.
Comfortable bed and warm shower. Large enough room which felt secure with a good door locking system.
Can be a little confusing to find the location- because there are multiple names of hotels in 1 location, checking and understanding the different "hotels" on each level. Mix of a hostel and hotel.

The room was nice, the location is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful!
The breakfast was below the average and nobody came to clean our room or at least to give us clean towels or more toilet paper. We were there for three nights.

Ari is phenomenal and I think she has the best vibe and personality great location and good music and drinks easy walk to local restaurants and shopping and secure luggage storage will return you can even see the duomo and city view from my room

At first a search for a hotel....it appears hotel merlini with good-looking pictures.....after I did my booking I received messages from the provider which is ostello Bello....I mean it's an hostel.....sorry guys never again....this is my opinion....it changes nothing....the only good think is the location and the hot water...thank you

The location is excellent. Sandwich bar across the road is a highlight.
This place is NOT a hotel. It is a hostel, which is fine if you want a hostel.
But I booked "Hotel Merlini" in the belief that it was a hotel.
It is actually a hostel called Ostello Bello, which is also called a few other names, as you can see from the photo in the elevator
Some of the staff were excellent. The lady at reception was disinterested and unhelpful at best.
Asked how I could get a taxi, was told to phone them.
As it was a hostel, it had lots of young people. Who liked to party, which made it very noisy, esp on karaoke night.
The rooms were dated but ok.
Breakfast was fine.
Would have been fine if I was much younger and it was half the price.

It is a very easy walk from the station and Via Faenza is a street full of character and lots of eating and drinking options.
There is an elevator ( it’s on the 3rd floor)
Merlin’s and all the other accommodations in this building used to be true family‘Pensione‘ full of warmth and character. They are now all owned by a company and there is little personal touch or charm in the corridors. It has a very youth hostel feel which is fine for young people though I also found it expensive ‘- at least wit our Australian $.
