Absolutely stunning apartment. If you’re traveling to Akureyri, it’s so worth to drive the ( easy ) 20 min out instead of staying in town . You won’t regret it . We had the penthouse and it was beautiful. The views , the private hot tub , the decor , the super comfortable bed , etc etc . 100 % a treat to stay here .

Rooms was spacious, with a kitchen and sitting area. The hotel is full of artwork and books. Reading areas outside of rooms. Breakfast was good. We had everything we needed for our stay. Very clean.

Arriving at Apt. Hotel Hjalteyri felt like stepping into an art gallery. The walls are adorned with stunning artwork by Icelandic artists- some were hauntingly beautiful. We stayed in Room 6, which was spacious, beautifully appointed - the bed was comfortable and the shower invigorating. Each morning, I enjoyed a brisk walk down to the small fishing village, followed by a refreshing cold plunge and a soak in the hot tub perched at the water’s edge—a perfect way to start the day. We ended each night with some time in the hotels hot tub under the stars. Tóti, the owner, was incredibly welcoming. We enjoyed our conversation about antique cars, a passion of his, which added a personal touch to our stay. Dining at Eyri Restaurant -a short walk from the hotel, was a highlight. Chef August’s inventive approach to Icelandic cuisine was evident in every dish. I savored the poached halibut with pickled apple on sweet potato purée, complemented by charred cabbage—an unforgettable combination. My partner enjoyed the reindeer, which was equally exceptional. And the servers, two gals from Greece, were attentive and delightful. This experience was a perfect blend of art, comfort, and culinary excellence. We look forward to returning.

This place is really beautiful. Our 1 bedroom apartment was very spacious, super clean and everything inside was made with great taste and design. It was a pleasure for us to stay! The hotel is like an art gallery - with great paintings and interesting literature! The view from the apartment was great!

We stayed in the penthouse suite for three nights and it was the nicest place we have ever stayed. The view is incredible! The private outdoor space on the deck with the hot tub was wonderful. We watched the cruiseships leave Akureyri every evening. The kitchen is well stocked and we appreciated the dishwasher. The bed and couch were very comfortable. We especially loved the art collection that made the hotel feel like an art gallery. Everything was so beautiful and quiet. We will remember this stay for the rest of our lives.

The room was spacious. The owner was very helpful and extremely accommodating. He booked a second night last minute without any issues. Hotel itself feels like an art museum. Beautiful painting on the walls. Jacuzzi and sauna were amazing.

The attention to detail was impressive. From having the hot tub with steaming hot water ready and waiting for us when we got there (we hadn’t even asked), to having robes in the room, extra pillows and friendly, highly responsive staff, we couldn’t have asked for anything more.

What a gem in Akureyri countryside! At first, I thought this might be “too far” from the city, but it was a blessing to have the peacefulness just minutes away from the hustle and bustle. I felt like I was staying in a gorgeous art museum (stunning art throughout!) as this is a beautiful boutique hotel with a very unique history~ the inn keeper is very friendly and will share the story! If I’m lucky enough to return, I will definitely be staying here!
