The rooms are neat and clean. However, it was very cold and there was no heating. Heating in the dorms would be appreciated. But this is still a great value budget accommodation. All tourist spots are walking distance from the hostel.
Lack of heating, small and compact space. The canteen did not have enough options for meals and snacks. It gets very cold during winter months. Nevertheless, this is a great budget option which is walking distance from all tourist locations.

Amazing and helpful tour guide at hostel, highly recommend doing the border trip with them, its very fun, affordable and convenient. Bed was clean and surprisingly long, each bed had a fan for the heat and the conditions were good and clean.
Reception hospitality could have been better when I got there; I have gotten better treatment at similarly priced hostels elsewhere. I arrived visibly very very sick and feverish but didn't get much attention despite staff not being busy (could have offered me tea or water). I don't expect this kind of treatment as a standard but I consider it as basic decency and hospitality. In the end however, one of the guys went to the pharmacy to get my medication after my delivery didn't come which I appreciate very much, they just could have been a bit more attentive in the beginning.

The rooms were pretty compact and comfortable enough for 2 people. It was clean and well maintained. The staffs in the reception were quite helpful in guiding us. The food court was also good, we had tasty bread omelete, maggie and chai at a reasonable price. Though located in a very clumsy area this location is convenient to visit all the tourist attractions. They provide auto services to the Wagah border. The total expenses can be shared with whoever is willing to join the ride(max. 7 people).

Super Comfy clean beds with privacy curtains and sockets near the bed. Location near the golden temple. Clean bathroom. 24h reception. Staff knowledge about the city. Good border tour. Comfy common area.
A liner for the blanket would add confidence to the cleanliness as I doubt they would wash the blanket between the guests. The soap in the sink has a strong smell.

I absolutely recommend staying at the Madpackers in Amritsar.
The location is excellent. You're within walking distance to the Golden Temple. The walk was safe, even at night.
The hostel has a daily border tour which was very handy. Definitely go with them. I visited in the off season, so pretty quiet. No one seemed to be around at the café but again, off season. And also, the Golden Temple has free food (grab a lassi on the way).
Staff is always available and friendly. They let me check in upon my arrival in the morning.
The room was decent and the AC works. Plus it was quiet. No real complaints. Bathroom was fine. Lots of stairs to climb though.
Cafe area and upstairs could use a deep clean.

We chose to stay at Madpackers Amritsar because it’s one of the most popular places in the city, and it really deserves its good reputation. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed.
Our first contact was with Mr. Samar (also known as Professor ?). Jokes aside, he was amazing — he showed us the main places to visit, taught us some local words, and we had several great conversations during our stay.
Since there was availability, they kindly provided our room very early. The room was clean and tidy, the AC and fan worked perfectly, and although the hot water was a bit unstable, we quickly learned how to handle it.
The hostel has a 24-hour reception and a very friendly, social atmosphere. They even have a group chat where you can join activities that happen regularly — for example, the trip to the Pakistan border hosted by Vick, who is friendly, knowledgeable, and really funny.
Mr. Rakal (sorry if I misspelled!) was also extremely kind — he showed us how to get to the Golden Temple and even hosted a free visit to ceremonies at other temples, which was an incredible experience.
They also helped us exchange some currency at a very good rate, which was a nice extra touch.
Overall, I truly appreciated my stay here — so much that I decided to extend it. Definitely recommended!
Every morning there’s a short power cut, which is quite common in the area. It’s not really their fault, but it can have a tiny impact on operations.

It's a basic hostel, facilities nothing flash, would still again in a heartbeat. Staff are great, helpful and kind. Rooftop great for the evenings. It's a social hostel where people get on well, easy place to spend time with other travellers. It's old school good.
