Exceptional
The hotel was immaculate and had the feel of an elegant 1920's retreat with all the modern amenities. One of the nicest hotels I've ever booked. The Pullman restaurant was an experience worth every penny and the 3 hour , seven course menu.
The silver salt grinders in the breakfast room need replacing. That is the ONLY criticism

Exceptional
We had a terrific two night stay, including an upgrade to a suite. The staff were, helpful, professional and very friendly. Breakfast was an excellent deal. The whole menu was available, in addition to the continental buffet. Service throughout was thoughtful and efficient. Its about 15 m in away from the center of Galway, and quiet at night. Take a cab to town-- parking is difficult. My family did the Falconry-- totally worth doing! We would definitely return

Disappointing
The property is beautiful but the staff are not. This is supposed to be a 5 star property but the staff, esp manager and front desk, are nowhere near 5 star territory. They are the kind of people who think a simple apology is a proper solution to their shortcoming.
Glenlo Abbey is a beautiful property with attractive grounds, which makes the shortcomings even more disappointing. My experience with the front desk and management felt superficial rather than genuinely hospitable. Concerns about problems with room (location, lack of privacy, interior probelms) were acknowledged but there was nothing sense of ownership or meaningful effort to improve the situation. Like I mentioned above, an apology alone doesn't fix any problems. The room itself was also not maintained to the standard I would expect from a hotel of this reputation and price point. In particular, the shower showed visible signs of mold and deferred maintenance. Housekeeping cleaned off some of dirt on shower floor left behind from prior occupant but mold on tiles, grout, and glass frame was evident everywhere. Ireland is known for warm hospitality, and I experienced that throughout much of my trip. Unfortunately, Glenlo Abbey did not reflect that same standard. While the property has potential, the service and attention to detail fell well below expectations, and this property cannot be regarded as 5 star.

Very Good
The Palmer restaurant, lobby bar, pianist, French Room drinks, and breakfast were all sensational. One of the best Negronis I have had, and the service from Christian in the lobby bar/French Room was outstanding. The pianist added a wonderful touch to the experience as well.
Room was not ready when we arrived, and the Pullman restaurant had no record of our reservation, even after I showed their team the email correspondence with Joseph Rogers, the director of food and beverage. Bathroom door in our guest room was oddly heavy and would not stay open, which was both strange and frustrating during our stay. On top of that, after our visit we discovered an incorrect minibar charge for a bottle of Jameson, which we only noticed later when reviewing our budget back in the US. Neither my wife nor I drink whiskey, so this charge was particularly frustrating and disappointing for a hotel that presents itself as a true five-star property.

Disappointing
room was comfortable grounds were lovely
there is no evening dining room in operation at the hotel the only option to eat on site is the "bar" room that smells very fishy the lovely dining room is used only for breakfast and tea the Pullman (orient express) restaurant is not open on Monday or Tuesday and caters to bus tours

The property was gorgeous. Close enough to the city for a quick trip in to Galway, but far enough away that it felt like a retreat. The views were lovely and it was peaceful. We also loved the bar. The bartenders were excellent and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and went above and beyond. The pianist in the lounge was incredibly talented as well.

Very unique property with a lot of history.
Everything was top-notch - the facilities, restaurant, meals, and rooms all exceeded expectations. Most importantly, when a small issue came up, management stepped in and handled it exactly how you’d expect from a property of this caliber. Special kudos to Joseph!

Wonderful
Hotel was lovely. Staff very welcoming, room was very comfortable and facilities excellent especially the bathroom! Spa and massages were gorgeous!
The pillows in the room were soft. Would have liked them firmer or extra to be available in the room. Choice at breakfast was good but the service was a little slow.
