What a lovely homestay! Everything is done with love and attention. A warm welcome by the family, fantastic food, lovely rooms with a spectacular view. And no noise, only the sounds of nature ( in Rantepao the mosk will wake you up early in the morning, or great chance there is a karaoke bar somewhere).
Highly recommended!

Wonderful
This homestay was wonderful! The host was very kind, helpful, flexible and an amazing cook (breakfast and dinner). She organized a guide and motorbike, which was perfect for the 4 days we stayed with Manai. The homestay is located a bit outside busy Rantepao surrounded by traditional Toraja-houses, in a quite (exept the chickens) and green evironement - beautiful! We would recommend the stay anytime.

Amazing host manai . Very good location feels just like home .
I know toraja is cold place but I wish atleast it had fans if not A/C . I suggest them to install ceiling fans for day time use atleast.

This is a homestay in the best possible interpretation (in our opinion)! The family has converted their traditional farmhouse into a nice little boutique hotel with a few rooms - all have big windows to enjoy the beautiful views across the rice fields and mountains. On the yard you have the typcial traditional houses to look at, while the rooms are in a modern building with all the comfort you need (own bathroom, wifi, shared fridge, comfortable beds etc.). Breakfast and dinner is served at separate tables in a shared area or on covered balconies. The food was always delicous and freshly cooked, the host ... always asked for our preferences and even our sometimes picky son found enough nice options to eat (just a simple thing like serving the components of a meal on separate plates can do magic). Every morning there was a different fresh fruit juice to enjoy, the staff was all very friendly and they all speak very good English. They were always around if we needed them, could recommend a wonderful guide (Mr. Anis) who we booked for 2 days to take us around the area, did our laundry before we moved on and overall you still have a maximum of privacy around the house. The place is a bit outside of central Rantepao, so you will need some transport to get here, but either you are travelling with a driver or you can get a taxi. Not an issue for us, as we were away most of the day to explore the area and were happy to return to our relaxing "home" in the evenings.
Sadly, we were the only guests during most of our stay, but we really hope this was just a coincidence, as this place deserves to be discovered and visited!

Very Good
Nice and quiet location. Tongkan houses as our closest neighbour. Very good food at the homestay. Also walking distance to a few restaurants if you want to go out to eat. Excellent service with airport transfer and arrangements with driver and guide to get around Toraja.
It would have been nice with a fan in the room.
Also a rack to hang towels and wet clothes on to dry would have been apreciated.

Good
Nice owners, breakfast and dinner are excellent, hot water and good WiFi.
The house is literally next to a chicken coop, so expect to wake up at around 4am. I also had an issue with the guide that the owner has recommended me of - John. Do NOT take him, his guiding skills are nonexistent. Its hard to believe that the owner was not aware of this, and he still recommended me of him. In general, it seemed that the owners care more about the interest of the service providers (guides, taxi drivers), and less so of the interest of their guests.

Super friendly staff, food great, rooms comfortable, view stunning, privacy reasonable, location awesome,
Couldnt ask for anything more!
Of course, luxuries could be better. But, to be honest, that is not why we are there.

This is a GREAT homestay. The rooms were nice and spacious. Everything was clean. The staff was so helpful and kind, they even went with my mother to the town and helped her buy a new and cheap phone after other one broke down. The food was AMAZING, so tasty!
There was also a guide that greeted us when we came, his name Yusuf, he planned a glorious 2 day tour around the area and we even got to witness a Torajan funeral ritual.
The hotel also helped to arrange transportation to Rantepao from Tentena and then from Rantepao to Sengkang, the drivers name was Indi and he is a really good driver and takes good care of his passengers in the bumpy and hectic roads of Sulawesi

The room was super super nice! amazing views to the Toraja houses with little terrace!! super calm and great food! super nice owners. Would definitely come back!
Some challenges we had during our stay (but that were not that much of a problem for us):
- electricity / water cut every day in the morning
- There are no taxis / transfer available to Rantepao so we had to go walking there to rent a scooter.. and it is 1h walking!! We were lucky we found a taxi after walking for 20 min. Same to go back to Rantepao to take the night bus, we had to go by scooter with all the luggage a bit complicated!!
- Also, we didnt like the guide they recommended, we couldnt understand his English, we went to a ceremony with him which was nice but super little explanations and not good english we dont recommend taking the guide with them, also the prices the guide was asking us at the beginning were 10x times the ones offered in Rantepao.

It's location ...
Quite a lot of dogs that bark throughout the night so if you are a light sleeper it might be hard to get a good night sleep

We stayed here for only one night before beginning a tour of Toraja. The room was large and comfortable and had the most amazing views across the fields to the hills beyond. The lady who owns the property could not have been more lovely. We are vegetarian but that somehow got missed, so when they brought us dinner it had meat, but she was apologetic, although it was probably my mistake, and brought us something else to eat in no time. We loved our short stay here.
There was nothing we did not like about staying at the Rura Raya Homestay

As other reviewers have said , a very comfortable home stay in a beautiful location . comfortable beds , hot showers and a lovely view from all of the rooms . The hosts Monike and Geri are very responsive on whats app and helped us make a night bus reservation from Makassar and arranged for us to be collected from the bus stop at 5am. Monike really is a wonderful cook , extremely generous meal sizes too! they put us in touch with a local guide who provided an excellent overview of Toraja in 2 days including a funeral ceremony . highly recommend

Me and my friend had a wonderful time in Toraja, and staying at Rura Raya was the best choice! The owner Manaek is a lovely and warm person ready to help with anything you might need, and she is an amazing cook-literally the best food we had in Indonesia! The room is clean and has a beautiful view of traditional Torajan houses. Highly recommended!!!
