The view from our room was nice and the food was always delicious. We also appreciated being able to go out with the dive boat to different locations for snorkling.
No one else seems to mind but be aware our room at least had spaces between the floor boards and the wall boards. The windows are stuck open and there are no screens. The netting for the bed is too small so you will be exposed to anything that comes in all the openings. The mosquitoe coils did work but our room and clothes smelled of smoke. We had a banana get covered in ants and a stick bug in our bed one morning. It's very hot and humid but you will have a ceiling and standing floor fan.

Wonderful
Simple whitewashed cottages with fans and large verandas overlook the pristine coral reef of Bunaken Island. The kitchen and boat staff keep you well fed and safely curate excellent diving outings (on which snorkelers are welcome to join). The reefs, including the house reef, are magnificent, diverse fish, healthy coral, clear water. Willeke is a welcoming and obliging host. We had a wonderful stay and recommend Happy Gecko whole heartedly!!!
Cottages would benefit from a little maintenance.

We really enjoyed our stay at Happy Gecko. As snorkelers you never know how well a dive resort will accommodate you and Happy Gecko caters equally to both. The resort is made up of a communal building by the beach and cabins set on a hillside overlooking the sea. We had a lovely sea view cabin that was comfortable and had a fan to keep us cool. Communal meals were served at set times. For lunch and dinner you do not choose what you want, but they can accommodate dietary considerations. For a nominal fee we joined the dive boat for the 8am to noon dives. Snorkelers were made to feel welcome and the sites we visited were all brilliant for snorkeling. We rented a scooter in the afternoon to explore the beautiful island. Our host was extremely helpful and the staff were friendly and courteous.

The location of the property is the best spot for self snorkelling and they have boat trips for daily snorkel and scuba points with realy good staff and boats are not crowded. This is a family owened bussiness and thanks to Jerry and Wileke they answered all my questions patiently and helped me during our stay. It was very nice listening Jerry's singing with his guitar on the beach. They also have a beautiful large tropical garden.

Amazingly quiet and tucked away in the heart of the most bio-active lagoons that I'd ever had the privilege of visiting. We thoroughly enjoyed the dives with Jimmy, our guide, and the incredible snorkeling that was just 150m away (no current and totally swim-able). Spacious, clean villas. The common area was homely yet it boasts picturesque views to the lagoon and a small mangrove outcrop. Food's great, we were treated to local dishes, usually a fish + veggie + fruit platter for lunch & dinner, while there's a good set of options for breakfast (pancakes; toast; nasi goreng; mee goreng). One thing I truly appreciated was how easy it was to communicate with the hosts, who arranged our dives and transfers professionally and patiently. Everything was a breeze.

This is a wonderful find, it is run on European lines as the hostess is Dutch and caters to western tastes. The staff are very knowledgeable about the sea life in the area. You can snorkel directly from the beach to the reef for wonderful coral, fish and turtles. The rooms are spacious with great sea views, you have accept there is no ac but the fans work well. Far fewer biting insects than we expected. There is a fridge full of cold drinks and beer available to buy.
The hosts were very warm and welcoming. They helped us with travel arrangements and gave recommendations for when we were back in Manado.
The steps up to the bungalows are steep, although the staff take your cases up and down for you. You need a torch to help you when the sun goes down. If you have dietary requirements I would suggest contacting the property in advance as there is no menu choice - only one lovely fish/meat dish is served at both lunch and dinner.

Nice and helpful staff, very good food at all 3 daily meals, nice beach to swim and snorkeling at the reef, quiet place. Excellent diving and snorkeling tours.
We knew when making the reservation that there was no AC but for us it was a bit to warm to sleep with only the fan

Amazing location by the beach and the absolutely stunning reef so close. The food was fantastic, we had 21 meals in total here over a week and not one of them was bad or anything to complain about, it was delicious. The staff were all so good at their jobs. I read a strange comment previously that the owner was a money grabber- this absolutely was not the case at all, Willeke was so nice and helpful, very laid back and no pressure to do their trips (although I would highly recommend)- this negative feedback I read previously was completely wrong on this subject. Overall it was a great experience and I can't wait to return.

The entire team from the owners to the support staff were unfailingly friendly, helpful and good-humoured. The food was simple but really delicious. The diving trips were well organised and we were well looked after by the whole crew. All in all, a really lovely place.

Good food and we loved going snorkelling with the diveboat for just 5 euros per person. The corals are still healthy and there is many little fish around.
We enjoyed our stay and felt very welcome!
