The staff were great, very pleasant, and the gentleman owner was a charming character. Hotel du Rempart wont win any awards for having modern rooms, but youre also taking about a hotel room for a family of four in the centre of Sancerre for 100 when other hotels are upwards of 250. We stayed here for one night as part of a family road trip, it was fine for what we needed.
Decor was dated, pictures hanging in the bedroom had dead flies inside the glass. Shower head was broken

Good location, 5mins walk to the main place. We stayed in one of the renovated rooms (double room) which was very nice, clean and comfortable. You could hear the disco/ music from the nightclub in the venue so if you a very soft sleeper may be a problem but we managed to sleep ok. Bed was comfortable and room was large. Accomdative with dogs which was great. Overall it is a fair price for a decent hotel and would recommend if looking for something simple but decent.

I loved it because it was old school, in a fast pace world that never slows down, we found this hotel a breath of fresh air. Yes its dated, but that's its charm and I hope it never changes. Its a piece of the past in the present. On reviews others have complained that its dated, needs work etc. But I dont think they are fully taking in where it is situated, the area is stunning. Your talking about Sancerre where one of the worlds best white wines is made. Everything about this trip was cultural, stunning, relaxing, award winning views and gave a huge slice of old style French charm. Down to the decor, staff, discotheque, food, views and location, it ticked every box. Anyone who appreciates simple, basic charm and appreciates a place that will take you back to a time that simply doesn't exist in many places anymore, will love this hotel. We will definitely stay again!
We didnt dislike anything, because it was kitch, old style, dated in a manner that made you smile. It has character!

Disappointing
The room and sheets were clean. View outside from the front of the hotel was lovely. Short walk into the little town. Free parking nearby. It was quiet (despite being above the very odd but strangely fun bar downstairs).
The tiny dark room for 3 of us (travelling with teenage son). The view of a roof (description said view!). The out of date decor in room and reception. The extremely tired bathroom with shower over bath which you had to hold. The broken lamps and fittings. Very saggy bed. The expensive price tag.
