Pleasant
Free car parking, great location, friendly helpful staff.

Wonderful
Beautiful building in a gem of a town with helpful and friendly staff.
A lot of stairs to the top floor when youre carrying all your gear off a motorcycle

Poor
the location which was perfect for local restaurants and walking into St Malo. Off road parking and a lovely garden
When I booked a double room Malouinire Le Valmarin I clicked on Double Room to book and was shown various photographs of the rooms available - the price for 3 nights was 329.40 including taxes and charges. On arrival we were told that there was only one double room available for people who booked a double room on Booking.com. The lady who I presumed was the owner said that this room was not very good as we would hear people walking up and down the main staircase. Also there was a very steep staircase down to the bathroom which was not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. The lady then tried to upsell us a different room - one at 40 per night more, which we refused, and one at 8 per night extra. We had no choice but to accept the latter one as the steep staircase down to the bathroom was not suitable and also not mentioned on the booking information. The room we were now paying 8 a night extra for was shown as one of the options for our original booking. The lady told us that every room at Le Valmarin has a different price and insisted that I have to pay the extra amount. There was also a hard sell to take the optional breakfast. We had breakfast on the first morning but declined for the next two days and were grilled as to why we didnt want it. There were no tea and coffee facilities in the room even though this was stated as included on our booking. When I queried this I was told that we could have this facility if we paid breakfast. On checkout I disputed the bill but was forced to pay 386.90 which included 27 for breakfast x 2. I considered this an overcharge of 30.5. I have been a long standing customer with Booking.com and have never had reason to complain but I really feel that this lady is very dishonest and the photographs of other bedrooms should be removed from your site or shown with their respective rates. Also reference should be made to the steep staircase in the only bedroom she claims to be selling on your site.

This place is magnificent ! The room is large and clean and the bed is very comfortable. The private garden is glorious. Breakfast was terrific and we will DEFINITELY stay here again. Short 5min walk to great bars and restaurants on the waterfront
Nothing! The parking was fabulous out the back of the chateau off the street

Off street secure parking is very good. The hotel is located near to restaurants, bars and town centre but does not suffer from street noise.
Infrastructural is dated. The internet access is old school and needs to be updated - it was unusable in our ground flor room.

Wonderful
Impressive & attractive building, with the interior to match.grounds beautiful & tranquil.every aspect of our stay was a delight, including the very convenient parking within the property gardens at the rear of the hotel..
One little downside to our stay was that breakfast did not start till 0830 ( relatively late i thought ) and we needed to be at the Port for 0900 for our return crossing..so no breakfast before we left..

Poor
The location was fairly close to the centre of St.Malo, the old walled Town less than a 1.5 mile walk.
AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! This hotel is 18th century...and feels it, but for all the wrong reasons! Don't be fooled by the pictures on the website. Decor is tired (that's being kind) and standards of cleanliness are very poor. There were dirty marks on the wall behind the bed (see photo). The whole place smells musty and damp. Facilities are also extremely basic, with no tea or coffee making facilities. There aren't even any shower screens/curtains, or a bracket for the shower head, so you have to hold it whilst showering! Primitive and bizarre. The stairs are a death-trap, the brass carpet rods are all loose and on occasion slip from their retaining rings and lay diagonally across the stairs. If a UK health and safety team visited this hotel, they would have it closed down immediately. Raw sewage bubbled up in the bidet (see photo). The hotel staff were going to make us stay in the room, even with the disgusting stench. We had to go and buy clingfilm to put across the bidet in an effort to stop the smell! It was only after I complained strongly to the manageress that we were eventually given an alternative room. We then had to move back to the original room again the following day, once the plumbing had been fixed. The manageress even had the ordacity to blame us for the blockage!!! We hadn't even used the bidet!!! She also tried to blame us when the TV stopped working, claiming we had broken it. We lost two night's sleep because of very noisy parties held in the house next to the hotel on the Friday AND Saturday evenings which continued until 4am both nights!! We complained, but to no avail. The manageress needs a crash course in hospitality, or a major career change. Do yourself a favour please, stay somewhere else, or risk bitter disappointment and a stressful, ruined holiday!

The room and bathroom were amazing. Lovely views out of the windows. Fabulous garden. Not far from beach and nice restaurants. Breakfast in a lovely dining room and lovely fresh food.
Carrying luggage up 3 flight of stairs was a challenge. Not having a shower stall in the bathroom. One bed had no access to a bedside lamp.

We arrived early after a long drive. We parked the car and asked to use the bathroom but a very rude lady refused to let us and told us to go away until check in at 3. She was shouting and very abrupt.
The card machine wasnt working when we checked in so when I paid later in the evening but the following day I received messages and voice mails from them saying I hadnt paid even though I sent proof of bank details and receipt.

Very pretty hotel in a perfect location to explore the town of St Malo. Lovely period features and room size was great. Quiet room at rear of house. Staff were excellent and on arrival we were given lots of information about the surrounding area and places to eat.
If being picky would ask for better wi fi but it wasn't vital for our overnight stay.

Wonderful
Comfortable room with very high ceilings, decorated in the traditional way. Enormous fun staying in this eccentric old building, with lovely staff, and a fantastic home-cooked Breton breakfast.
There was no shower curtain - impossible to avoid lots of water going on the floor.
