This is actually a review of Hotel Châteaubriant, the "parent" hotel, as we received a message the day before we arrived saying that our booking had been transferred as there were not enough bookings to keep Hotel de la Cité open. All our original booking terms were honoured and we had a beautiful room with a superb view. Breakfast was also excellent.
I was slightly unnerved by the unexpected change of hotel but my concerns were unfounded and we had a lovely stay.

Great location, amazing view of the sea. Comfortable bed and very good breakfast. Kitchenette was very practical.
Window in bathroom didn't have any shades or shutters so in the dark, everyone outside on the ramparts had direct view inside.

Pleasant
Great location, very easy to find, round the corner of the Porte St Vincent. Room size was alright; bathroom was modern and functioning well. Bed linen and towels are clean. Breakfast room is pleasant and buffet was adequate. Wide selection of teas.
The sewage smell at the reception puts you off. The corridors and my bedroom was a bit tired.

The location is wonderful, fantastic view of the ocean & fort. The apartment is well laid out for a family of 4 & the small kitchenette was perfect for little apéro times.
Loud bar noise (drunk yelling, very loud bottle crashing/recycling until after 2 am, then again at 6 am. Impossible to sleep with an open window & shades only work when window is closed. The smell in the apartment (especially the bathroom was terrible, a strong sewage smell). We reserved a parking spot but the one first provided was almost impossible to get into & out of, then the second day, they had not held out a usable spot for us. We had to park in the public parking, & since we found an open space, it worked. Quite stressful for us & very unprofessional way to deal with their guests.

Decent sized room. Good breakfast. Excellent location inside the old town.
Safe did not work properly despite asking front desk to fix on our first evening. No hairdryer. Bathroom was very small without a mirror over the sink. Bed very soft. Strange rubber floor covering with stain marks, almost like an underlay.

The location, the proximity to the wall and the beach. Just down the street from stores and restaurants. Being able to park right next to the hotel. We liked the friendly and helpful staff as well as the delicious and plentiful breakfast buffet.
The lack of shower curtain and the fact that the shower head isn’t attached to the wall so you can take a shower standing up.

The room, view and location were great as advertised. We made a last minute reservation which they accommodated well. The view was great !!
Kamron who was managing when we checked in couldn’t have been more helpful. He went above and beyond assisting us with dining options, loner umbrellas, room upgrade and scheduled us a taxi for the next day. He spent additional time helping us book a train back to Paris which wasn’t easy considering it was Sunday.
