The staff at the desk were excellent. We appreciated their help with the luggage and their welcome assistance when we returned late in the evening. The garden was lovely and the grounds were well maintained. I think they were doing a very good job of working out of the Covid disaster.
It is perhaps unfair to judge an operation coming out of the past 18 months of Covid as one might normally judge a Relais and Chateaux operation. For example, the staff operating the breakfast line need more training since they twice let the scrambled eggs stick and burn in the chaffing dish. Either the furniture in the room we stayed in was too large or there was too much of it. The room felt more cramped than it needed to be. The bathrooms need an overhaul, especially since the floor tiles were so worn as to appear dirty when I feel certain they had been cleaned since everything else was spotless. And while we were lucky with the weather, I think they will need to add air-conditioning to the rooms in the future.

We were driving back from the south of Framce and thought this would make a good stopping off point on our way to Calais. On paper, it seemed to combine the hoped for luxury of a Relais et Chateaux hotel & Restaurant whilst concurrently welcoming dogs - we were travelling with our small dog. The bellboy was very welcoming however which was good and the girl on reception kindly let us use the reception area fan as our room was hot and stuffy. The hotel is situated within a forest with some nice little pathways - perfect for dog walks.
The hotel as a whole was gloomy and very dated not helped by the entrance being blocked off by tram works so you have to find a route through via a rear service entrance. The grounds are very limited - mostly a scrappy car park and a small garden - apparently there was a famous landscape designer who had been involved but they certainly seem to have lost their touch - the planting, especially around the car park, was very scrappy. We hoped the restaurant would have been superb but instead it felt like a 1950s experience. Our waiter seemed to be shy and perhaps was nervous of speaking English but either way, it was not a very welcoming experience. A small amuse bouche was good and the fish starters fine but uninspiring. Unfortunately, we thought we were ordering veal but instead got veal kidneys (admittedly not their fault that we hadnt understood the menu properly). The Rum Baba was a classic throw back - involving a stodgy tasteless sponge pudding with no finesse at all. The wine was OK but expensive. After dinner a gloomy walk to the bedroom down a corridor with stained aged carpets. We turned up for Breakfast at 8.00am on a Sunday. There was only one waiter when we arrived and he was more involved in making up tables than worrying about whether we wanted a coffee. I went to help myself from a very rudimentary buffet but was told By another, newly arrived waiter that it wasnt a buffet and I should wait at the table for waiter service. Then I had to wait for 15 minutes for any service!!! Personally, they would be better off providing a buffet - cheaper for them to staff and easier for the guests. As we leaving the hotel - the receptionist tried to charge extra taxes. When I pointed out that the bill expressly stated that all taxes were included he quite quickly backed down. All in all - this hotel does NOT live up to the standards I would expect of a Relais et Chateaux establishment.
