Hotel Lutetia is an iconic luxury hotel located in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area. Located on the Left Bank of the River Seine, it is a 5-minute walk from le Bon Marché Department Store and 1.2 mi from the Louver Museum. A Paris landmark, the hotel features 184 rooms including 40 suites and 7 signature suites. Each of them features complimentary WiFi, media hubs and marble bathrooms . Some rooms have a balcony with views of the Eiffel Tower, and some suites feature a rooftop terrace with a 360° view of Paris. After a busy day, guests can relax in the Akasha Spa which features a fitness center and a sauna, as well as a steam room and a 17-yard indoor pool bathed in natural daylight. A wide range of spa treatments are available at an extra cost. Several types of breakfast are available each morning including gluten-free, halal, kosher and vegetarian options. For lunch and dinner, guests can enjoy the famous Lutetia Brasserie or the Saint Germain restaurant. Guests also have access to two different inner courtyards for a light meal. The hotel also features an exclusive cigar lounge and a jazz bar designed by Jean Michel Willmotte.

Disappointing
Central Paris location in St Germain at the Sevres-Babylon Metro station. Historic exterior.
The historic character of the interior of the building above the ground floor has been replaced by an interior designer's concept. Corridors with pools of light and reflecting surfaces are not suitable for anyone with impaired eyesight. The splilt pocket doors to the bathroom did not work so that taking a bath turned the whole room into a sauna (fortunately the smoke detectors did not operate). Room service involved providing reminders at intervals until someone came. Although we had already provided our expected arrival time, there were repeated requests to provide it again. Check in was delayed by the credit card readers not working - supposedly OK as "normal" but the room was prepaid and they already held credit card details so this was solely to protect the hotel from their presumption that I would fraudultently consume the minibar. The fact that I was late for an appointment wa apparently irrelevant. The whole impression was the staff followed a corporate checklist without any interest in providing a service to guests. Our biggest "disappointment" was (although the room was immaculately clean) the bath towel appeared to have faecal matter on it. (The hotel eventually messaged us after we checked out that this is not their normal standard so you may have better luck.)

The Lutetia feels like home. It's an incredibly classy experience, the luxury never goes overboard but is always there. The location is great, rooms are elegant and flawless, and the gym and spa area are fabulous, surprisingly so for an inner city location in the centre of Paris.. What impressed me particularly was the attention to the slightest detail, and that each and every member of staff seemed to know my name. The downside is clearly that all this has its price: room rates are pretty expensive.

My room was tiny. The porter took forever to arrive with my luggage when I was leaving. No one knew where he’d gotten to and no one seemed to care much whether I missed my flight or not.
