The hotel Maison Rouge is located in Barr, on the wine road close to Strasbourg, it is set in a characteristic Alsatian building. It has en-suite guest rooms with a flat-screen, cable TV. We booked last minute a local hotel as we were travelling from Italy to England. We were given our key and asked if we wanted to book a table for dinner. We showered and changed and had a walk around the lovely town of Barr. When we returned to our booked table, the restaurant was full. It was popular as the food was great. The room was very hot, at the end of August, but they opened the window and closed the shutters to keep it cool. Also, a fan was provided, half way through the night, I turned it off as it was noisy. We had a comfortable bed, so we both slept, albeit the pillows were strange, square and flat, I will in future pack one from home. Breakfast wasn't the best, sour milk, which was eventually changed after another couple also pointed it out. The rest was okay, but nothing seemed chilled, warm orange juice, etc, so we checked out and headed off

A very old traditional hotel in the heart of town. Friendly staff and a very nice room. Perfect for staying in Barr and enjoying the Saturday market.

The location in Barr was lovely. It is like a Bavarian town.
Upon arrival a very curt lady was less than pleased with us. We were told that the restaurant was closed without any explanation. This was primarily why the hotel was booked. It was a Sunday and after travelling from Italy we just wanted to be able to eat where we were staying. The rooms were ok though there was no bottled water or a kettle or any tea making facilities. My partner asked why the restaurant was closed and if there was anywhere else and was told the rest of the town was open. It was NOT. We spent a good hour trying to locate a restaurant to eat in which we luckily did. Upon our return to go to bed we had exceptionally noisy neighbours who we had to tell to be quiet at 0200 hrs. After a fitful sleep breakfast was ok. Though for 13 Euros each bread and cheese and fruit doesn’t really cut it.

It was perfect for our stopover on our way to Italy. It’s in the centre of a beautiful town with plenty of restaurants to choose from.
The bedroom was very hot and stuffy. A fan was supplied which was better than nothing but air conditioning is really needed in the hotter months so you can get a decent night’s sleep optional extra

Great location in the centre of Barr. We had a large bathroom and the size of the room was good.
The staff could be friendlier. The lady at the reception was on a private phone call (on speaker) when we arrived and quickly sorted us out while staying on her call. The room and bathroom could do with a renovation.
