My partner and I were travelling to see friends further South and really liked the location of this (slightly quirky) hotel.
We booked and stayed on a Sunday evening on the way down. Sadly by the time we arrived most of the local businesses were closed but the receptionist kindly booked us a table for supper in the most superb restaurant, a short walk away, in the town by the name of Chez Paulo.
Our room (on the first floor) of the hotel had a large shower and modern amenities with a comfortable bed and excellent air-conditioning/ heating.
Parking was available free of charge and adjacent to the hotel.
Having enjoyed a good experience on our initial visit we re-booked for the Friday evening on our journey back. We were aware that Saturday was market day in the town and we were anxious to return to Chez Paulo.
Our experience could not have been more different. We were given a room on the second floor despite very few other guests on site with a tiny bathroom which had an over-bath shower which didn't have sufficient head height to allow proper showering. The room was cold and the air-condtioning/heating inadequate. Clearly the owners were aware of the problem as a fan heater had been left in the bathroom to supplement the heating but I suspect the problem arose from being in the eaves of the building and without sufficient insulation. The bedside light didn't work and clearly the receptionist was aware of this but was unable to help. Why oh why were we allocated this dreadful room in January?
On departure we filled in the customer survey and left an e mail address in order that someone could contact us if they wished. They did not!

Not the first time we've stayed at La Reserve, and it will not be the last! In the middle of the lovely, historic, market town of Brive-la-Gaillard the hotel offers the best of a simple, value for money stopover or for longer days to explore the beautiful Correze. The lack of a restaurant is simply not a problem as there is a wide choice all around within easy walking distance.
The welcome is warm and charming, the rooms perfectly prepared as is the bathroom, with loads of hot water. Our bed very comfortable and the breakfast well above average with cereals, breads, pastries, fresh boiled eggs, charcouterie ,etc
If your looking for a great evening meal experience, walk round the corner to Le Comptoire St Sernin. If only all Brasseries were like this! A teriffic atmosphere in a baronial hall with bustling, well trained staff and a kitchen that really knows what it's doing. We revisit Brive just for this experience!

Comfortable hotel. Friendly staff. Car parking space adjacent but not a closed garage.
The trouble was that I arrived on a summer Sunday afternoon and Brive was shut! The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant so I walked around the town. Only two restaurants were open. Fortunately I booked one because when I went back for dinner they were turning people away. When I got back to the hotel at 9 pmI thought I would have a brandy. But I was locked out having not taken out with my my PIN code for getting back in. When I did get in the bar was shut. But this should not detract from the hotel which was comfortable with a good breakfast. I would go again.
