W Barcelona is a striking sail-like structure next to Barceloneta Beach, offering breathtaking design and fantastic views over Barcelona. The renovated room was beautiful, modern and well equipped, with a lovely bathroom and an amazing sea view. Check-in was easy, and the room-service staff member who helped us was extremely kind and professional.
Unfortunately, the service was far below what I expect from a five-star hotel. Our Premium Sky Sea View room had an extremely strong chemical smell that made both my daughter and me cough and feel unable to breathe comfortably. We had to leave the room and wait in the corridor. Despite calling reception several times and repeatedly being told someone would come to inspect the room, nobody ever came. I had already showered and was standing in the hallway in my bathrobe, while my hungry daughter ended up eating our room-service dinner in the corridor. The room-service employee was actually the only person who came, smelled the room herself and understood how bad the situation was. Eventually we were moved to a smaller room that was not the category I had booked and paid for. What disappointed me most was the lack of proper follow-up and service recovery. I was not looking for a free stay; I was looking for the level of service and recovery I would expect from a hotel of this category. The reception and lobby were also extremely crowded, loud and chaotic, with slow service and poor coordination between staff, supervisors and management. Some interactions were unfortunately quite rude. The lobby itself also feels dated and does not give the polished five-star experience you would expect from a W hotel.

Been to the W in Barcelona a few times but honestly this was the best experience we’ve had mainly down to the staff from the front desk to the beach staff- super helpful, friendly and attentive. Kudos for this as it wasn’t always the case in the past. Wet Deck summer series was great as well.
