Location
The woman at reception was very very aggressive, and when I had to step out downstairs to grab something before I checked in, she physically tried to stop me and block the hallway entrance over and over, insisting that I check in at that moment and produce all documents at that moment, she would not let me leave. I was trying to use my Spanish to and was having trouble deciphering her English accent, and the people in the lobby waiting were ridiculing me, and pointing at me and laughing. I have never experienced this level of aggression from someone in this position. I was appalled and felt unsafe immediately.

I loved the hosts and the location! They were so helpful if I needed anything extra! The room is clean and it’s basic, but I didn’t travel to Barcelona to sit in my room! I would stay here again.

Although the Pension is in the middle of everything, it was calm and quiet. They cleaned daily, changed towels and bins in my room.
The people working there are ABSOLUTELY sweet, very helpful and kind. I felt like home and I would return here any time! :)

Excellent view of Les Ramblas from our 3rd floor balcony, and thankful for our private shower room. We had really lovely, friendly and accommodating managers. We kept the balcony doors open all night because we liked the sounds of the city and fresh air in lieu of air con. If you want absolute quiet, you just needed to close the windows. We never did.
The shower floor was very slippery so we used a towel for a shower mat and there was actually no problem.
Being diabetic, the room lacked a refrigerator for my insulin, but the staff was very cheerful about retrieving it from their refrigerator when I needed it.

Wonderful
Pensio Villanueva's location is excellent. It's in Placa Reial, which is an attraction in itself with many restaurants in it. It's a block off La Rambla. It's walking distance to the Columbus Monument, La Boqueria, and Barcelona Cathedral. It's also close to a metro station, a KFC, a McDonald's, as well as local restaurants and souvenir shops.
I had difficulty finding the hotel. I didn't see the signs. The room itself was a little small, but it has its own toilet and shower, and it has A/C.

Location is great. Personell friendly . Fresh towels every day
There is no refrigerator, no TV. Shower is leaking all over the floor. We received only a very small soap and 2 shampoo packs for 3 nights. The place is old, needs updating

Disappointing
The location is great, really central to so much going on in Barcelona!
The woman working the front desk was also very nice, she remembered everyone's room number staying there and was just sweet in nature.
Barcelona is a very expensive city, crowded with tourists, so from the beginning, I could see the high prices. This was a 2 star hotel, so we did not expect anything fancy, so I won't comment on other things since we get what we pay for (and we still paid a lot!). Nonetheless, the A/C did not work in our room, the shower would run hot and cold, so I felt it was overall not a good deal.

Host was rude, definitely wasn’t just the language barrier, she was unprofessional and mocked my party as well as other guests.
The bathrooms are definitely infested with mold. They have an extremely strong mildew scent. Beds are okay, the room overall was musty but it was doable for the location.

We checked out imidiately as we checked in and cancelled. There was mold everywhere! We changed our room and then there is no running hot water. The bed was super squeaky, everything was old. This facility needs to be shut down! İt is not acceptable for a city like Barcelona. Booking.com didn’t care much as İ told them about the incident and didn’t even ask for the photos after we got our refund. Dont go there!

Only Mr Kiko on the reception is the only good thing in this hotel other than location..
Too expensive
Lift is not for 24 hours
Rooms are small and old ..
Shared rooms are on 6th floor and no lift that is why it is cheap in comparison.

Great location with an amazing terrace view – worth it for the experience
What we loved the most about this place is definitely the location. It’s right in the very center of Barcelona, on Plaça Reial, which gives it a special charm. The view from the terrace is beautiful both during the day and at night – perfect for relaxing with a glass of Spanish wine.
Everything is within walking distance – the beach, Barcelona Cathedral, the Picasso Museum, and even Gaudí’s Casa Batlló is just a couple of minutes away. If you prefer public transport, the metro is very close and takes you quickly to Sagrada Família and other attractions.
The Gothic Quarter, where the accommodation is located, is full of life. You can find literally everything around – great restaurants, bakeries, taco bars, boutiques, and local shops.
The host is very kind, as well as the rest of the staff. A special mention goes to Kiril, who communicates very well with guests from the Balkans and is always ready to help.
As for the downsides, the place is a bit old and could use some renovation. The blankets had some stains, and there were two rusty chairs on the terrace – although Kiril quickly replaced them with better ones. On the positive side, towels are changed every day, which we appreciated. The bathroom is basic but functional, with soap, shampoo, and toilet paper provided.
In the end, it’s all about expectations – you get what you pay for. If this place were fully renovated in such a prime location, it would probably cost three times more. For us, the amazing location and atmosphere made it easy to overlook the small imperfections.
