Hotel 1898 exceeded all expectations - perfectly located half way La Rambla, it offered easy access both to the Gothic quarter, the local squares, restaurants and other places of interest. Inside, the colonial feel/ambience to the whole hotel was just to our taste - dark wood, elegant wallpaper, plush carpets and big furniture. Our room was superb - super king size bed, lovely bathroom, and the luxury of a small balcony as well. Breakfast was fantastic - well laid out and plentiful with a choice of continental or cooked, fruit, cakes, breads & pastries with a section dedicated to Catalan delicacies as well! Lunch on the roof terrace was also spectacular! And the roof terrace - just amazing! Well stocked bar, comfy easy chairs and beds all around, loungers and of course the roof-top pool! Staff wise - faultless, polite, professional and efficient
Dinner in the roof restaurant one night was unfortunately really poor - over-seasoned, cold and missing ingredients. We knew the food was good because we'd had the same thing on a previous day. So possibly a different chef that night.. However, staff were professional and polite about it all and managed us very well when we fed back to them. I do feel this is a very isolated (and unusual incident however - previous meals we had had were excellent!). One piece of constructive feedback would be to maybe have different menus between lunch and dinner, rather than the same options for both.

Limited but I’m guessing because they also have sauna service , great location , really great because it’s around most things
The staff weren’t so helpful , limited things in the room and also the reception does not mention that the beverages offered in the fridge isn’t free so I think it’s best to mention that to customer so they can’t be shocked when checking out

Reception staff very poor. Room smelt damp and didn’t get released to late in afternoon… had looked forward to this stay and left disappointed

The staff are exceptional. Decor and comfort also excellent.
The Wi-Fi service is awful ....
It was a GREAT shame that the lobby bar - one of the highlight features of the hotel - was not opened. They rely on the rooftop bar during summer months but this is too small, too hot and does not have sufficient staffing.

The pool and view from the rooftop are one of the most incredible parts of our trip, the stuff was super nice and the location is just perfect
The shower in the room is from year 1898. Literally impossible to deal with the temperature.

The property is located Central to the main part of La Rambla and I’ve read the bad reviews about the Hotel 1898 but I found it’s the most wonderful place I’ve stayed in which offers the old with the modern finish in the building with excellent working staff present just when you need help, advice and needs to making our stay so wonderful.
I had an emergency (had a fall and injured my hand) and the 2 young female receptionist who took time out and help my wife organise our visit to the hospital (apologise I didn’t get they names) we would like to take this opportunity to Thank them.
We liked everything about the property, for us it’s the atmosphere and the cleanses of the building.

Quiet hotel conveniently located on La Rambla. Taxi stand right out front and nice amenities. Has a superior rooftop pool and bar. Atmosphere is a little dark but that makes sense with the theme and decor.

Despite the roadworks in Barcelona, the hotel was easy to reach and we were guided to our parking by a member of staff. The location is excellent being right on La Rambla. The entrance looby and lounge in very beautiful and well furnished. Desk staff are first class and extremely helpful. The room was tastefully decorated and sizeable. Bed comfortable. Breakfast offered a wide choice and was tasty. We didn't use the restaurant in the evenings but the rooftop bar offers a fairly wide menu with good food served. The indoor pool and spa area were exceptional and never busy. We didn't get a chance to sample the rooftop pool. There's an ample supply of taxis outside, especially in the mornings.
