Beautiful building and well maintained.
A lot of construction right by the property was inconvenient.
We had trouble with working the shower and it took a day or two to get some one to help us figure it out.

The location is perfect just off Las Ramblas. The lobby is fabulous and the top floor swimming pool and bar are great to come back to after sightseeing with stunning views at night. Rooms clean and very comfortable.

The hotel was stunning. Amazing views from the rooftop bar area, central for everything, room was beautiful, the bed was amazing, so comfortable. The staff were lovely, breakfast was fabulous. I couldn't fault the hotel.Getting to the airport couldn't be easier. Even in the early morning taxi's can be hailed from right outside the hotel.. €35 euros and a 20 minute trip to the airport.We have never been to Barcelona before and would not stay in the area again. It is very busy and the construction on Las Ramblas meant the whole area was noisy,, dusty and not somewhere you'd want to spend any time. This didn't impact our opinion of the hotel however.
The area was not somewhere we would enjoy spending time unfortunately.

Great location, delicious breakfast, relaxing spa, and cool rooftop bar with city views. It’s a beautiful hotel that evokes the Spanish Colonial ambience of the late 19th century. The staff are welcoming and helpful and we like how the hotel cuts down on plastic use and offers filtered water in the spa area. We would stay here again.
Repair work on las Ramblas (which is beyond their control) especially early in the morning.

From our arrival the Hotel 1898 was amazing! The location was perfect for walking around the Gothic Quarter. The room was comfortable and the ac worked!! We enjoyed the spa for our 30 minutes free each day. The breakfast was great!! I highly recommend this hotel if you are in Barcelona! It went beyond all my expectations!!

This Hotel is amazing. Beautiful, clean, location could not be better and the roof top bar and restaurant was a big plus. Food and drinks very good.

too expensive for it's quality, some staff members need training in customer service.
On the day we came in (August 11, 18:00-19:00) the reception guy was very rude and had a horrible french stereotypical attitude, he was talking to us as if we were annoying, he was refusing to answer our questions about simple things. horrible attitude for a first impression.
Then we got to the room #345
you could HEAR and FEEL the VIBRATION of the elevator. The door into bathroom was getting stuck all the time because of airflow. we called a guy from maintenance and he said "just push hard it's ok".
We asked for a room change because of those inconveniences and the price we were given was 900€ per night...
Overall horrible experience and horrible first impression.

Hotel was beautiful. Rooms were spacious. Excellent location.
Someone walked into our room while we were sleeping in the morning. They had a key and had been assigned to our room. After my husband went to talk to them to find out what mistake was made still they called the room and told our children to get out because they were in the wrong room. Very strange experience that ruined our stay with them. They did give us breakfast as an apology. Breakfast was nice. If not for the room issue and attitude about it the stay would have been 5 stars. The rest of the staff was fantastic.
