Centrally located, and we had the BEST host, Darwin. He was so kind and helpful. He even offered to escort us to the local square so we could find dinner. He just made our experience so lovely

Darwin greeted us when we arrived and was very friendly; he offered great advice on to help our very short time in the city. The property feels very secure and is absolutely stunning inside. Plus the location is truly unbeatable. I have never had a booking exceed my expectations like this one.
Our room had no exterior windows, which meant it was a little dark inside. But this was not really an issue, as the common area is simply amazing, so you won't want to spend much time in the room anyway!

Great stay, property is very close to Plaza San Francisco in a good location. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, Darwin went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and any questions were answered. Sonia provided us with advice on activities to do in Quito. We were also able to store bags here for a week as we were visiting the Galapagos. We then chose to stay again for a night upon our return.

Stayed in the hotel for 5 nights. The hotel is like a museum. You can spend hours looking at the artistic design. At one point, it was part of the monastery and hosted some famous statue of Mary which was later taken to the museum in Cuenca. The ceiling is made of glass which makes it very pretty. Romantic place. Location is amazing, one is basically at St Francisco square where all live events are happening.
It is kind of hidden off the street, which could be also a plus, because it is quiet and only distant sound of church bells can be heard.

Charming historical building that still has some original furniture. Great hot water and comfortable beds. Good location for walking around the Centro Histórico. Manager was kind and helpful.
Hard to find as there is no sign outside. If you have breathing issues, keep in mind it’s an old building with poor air flow.

I wanted to share what a wonderful stay we had at Hotel Cantuna in Quito. The location was excellent, just a short two-block walk from the Plaza de San Francisco, which made it easy to explore all the nearby shops, restaurants, and attractions.
Our room was spacious and very comfortable for the three of us, with plenty of room for all our belongings. We also appreciated how clean everything was, and the quiet indoor courtyard was a lovely bonus, offering comfortable seating perfect for reading and relaxing. The beds were very comfortable. Additionally, our host was very welcoming and helpful, and it was great that they spoke English.
Front door was hard to open.

Darwin was fantastic - he was super helpful showing us the metro station in person and recommending restaurants near by
The rooms are dates which is also charming but due to recent rain - they smelled and felt damp .

A quirky and unusual hotel with lots of interesting features. Lashings of hot water and good pressure in the shower (not always found in South America) Sonja and Darwin were very helpful and made me feel very welcome.

The proprietor, the maintenance person. the comfy bed, hot water.
Portal de Cantuna is a very old and dilapidated hotel. the rooms, bath room, door, windows are falling apart. It should stopped being advertized. what the proprietor needs to do is to raze this old building and build a new hotel. The location is very good; but the present hotel is largely a negative experience.
