Wonderful property, all in great taste, perfect location, gorgeous garden, gourmet breakfast, but mostly the people, Wilmer and his team went above and beyond to make us feel like royalty.

The breakfast was absolutely incredible. First, they seat you at a lovely mosaic table in a beautiful garden area with Italianate terracotta walls and an abundance of flowers and birds. A lovely person comes to take your breakfast order and explain to you the offerings which feature traditional Andean breakfasts like "Motepito", which their staff prepare with great care. They really make you feel at home in a way that few other bed and breakfasts achieve.
I only wish I could have stayed longer!

The breakfast was excellent - local foods and plentiful. There is a lovely garden in the back where you can eat and relax. There are also several areas inside the hotel with comfortable furnishings for relaxing. Except for the rooms facing the street, the rest face the inside courtyard which is well-insulated from noise and weather (glass roof). But most of all the staff was so kind and helpful. The manager, Wilmer, took a real interest in my comfort and experience, making sure I had recommendations on where to eat and what to do. He answered several special requests with great kindness. The staff too worked hard to make my stay exceptional. I felt like family. I was even sent off by Wilmer and 3 staff members as I got into the taxi to go to the airport!.
Honestly, there is little I can say for improvement. I would have liked a comfortable chair in the room (there was a desk and desk chair), but the room was too small for that. The public spaces with comfortable furniture made up for that.

Superb breakfast overlooking a garden courtyard. Best Tigrillo (fluffy plantain with cheese). Friendly staff. The manager invited me to accompany him to the market as he shopped for fresh fruits and vegetables. It's on quiet street a five minute walk to Parque Central. Terrific view of old city from the roof terrace.
The bedroom curtains could have blocked out a little more light. The coffee was good but not excellent. Now I'm really struggling to find anything wrong.

Excellent stay. Perfect location. Walk to many parts of town but not located in a busy area. Incredible, homemade breakfasts in a flower filled courtyard. Staff is attentive and friendly, as well as professional. Historic building that is very charming and also has a cool rooftop patio. Gated parking is just around the corner. 1 minute walk.
The walls are thin, so you can sometimes hear walking in the hallway or water running through pipes, but this will be the case with most any antique structures.

Wonderful
The hotel has an interior garden so magical, that our day started with flowers, trees, birds and a wonderful breakfast in the middle of this paradise. The staff is superb.

The service was amazing, very attentive, they noticed I was using a rolled up towel to support my neck so they brought me a curved neck support pillow, really thoughtful! The breakfast is not only delicious and overflowing, but is also artistically presented and felt really special.
We stayed in the cottage in the back and it was a little bit musty, but everything else we liked.

I had an amazing stay at Hostal Casa Montalvo in Cuenca, Ecuador. The room was clean, spacious, and beautifully designed, perfectly maintaining a charming vintage style that makes the place feel warm and unique. I want to especially thank Patricia, Martin, Andres, and Wilmer—they truly made my stay enjoyable. They are very professional, friendly, and always helpful, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The location is excellent, just a few minutes from downtown, with easy access to everything you need. Breakfast was delicious every day and always a nice surprise—it included fresh fruit, coffee, eggs, and even tea made from their own cedrón plant, which was such a lovely and special touch. Everything was great, and I highly recommend Hostal Casa Montalvo to anyone visiting Cuenca. I would definitely stay here again!
The only small downside was that the armoire had a noticeable smell of old clothing and wood, which is likely due to the vintage furniture. It didn’t ruin my stay, but it’s something that could be improved.

Excellent stay! Highly recommended! We stayed for five nights at Casa Hotel Montalvo in October 2025. It is a wonderful hotel, perfectly located for exploring the Cuenca historic District. My wife and I love to travel and this is one of our favorite places we have ever stayed. The atmosphere is peaceful. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable, giving us a good night’s rest. The breakfast room is lovely with beautiful murals, overlooking flowers and birds in the courtyard garden. Every day we looked forward to the fabulous artistic gourmet breakfast. Wilmer and his staff were welcoming and so helpful during our stay. Andres gave us some great ideas. They also arranged a terrific guide for us to visit Cajas National Park, which was a fabulous day trip. We highly recommend this hotel. Alan and Angela
