The Location is Superb. This is my 4th visit. I did notice the breakfast has stricken. A big plus inside packing free. I will come back
The breakfast used to be more generous.

Location was very convenient - right in the center of the Zona Colonial, so we could just step out of the hotel and walk around. Decorations in the hotel were very nice - lots of paintings that matched the old Spanish style. The hotel had parking available (which we did not use), but if one comes by car, that is very useful. We arrived by ARTRPA bus and it was a 10-15 minute walk to the hotel, very easy.
They had a small breakfast selection in a very small breakfast location - hard with a group of 4. We had no trouble with water, but the other couple did not have warm water.
Our room was to the front street and it was a little noisy at night due to some life Jazz music in the vicinity

Wonderful
The location and the quality of the room were exquisite. The staff is extremely amicable and attentive to details. The hotel itself is a like a true old castle. Loved the archeological corner with discoveries from the early colonial period on display, including an old encrusted sword and old Spanish colonial furniture. The private terrace that came with our room was just out of this world to relax. The private covered parking is highly appreciated in the busy Zona Colonial area.
An iron to go with the ironing board that hangs in the closet. Would come in handy with business trips and lengthier stays. The included breakfast was mediocre with very small selections, but adequate.

Disappointing
Staff other than front desk at check-in were kind and professional. But the room was not clean, termite dust in the corner, fridge did not work, no TV channels in English, bad quality with respect to the limited offer of Spanish channels. If you can overlook all that, along with the "extra" charges they may put on your bill (see comment under what I didn't like), the location of the hotel could not be better.
I had a Booking.com reservation quoted in Dollars. (In the Dom Rep, when using a US credit card, merchants give you the option to process the transaction in Dollars or Dominican Pesos - probably the reason why Booking.com offers you a guaranteed dollar rate rather than an "estimated" dollar rate based on the current exchange rate.) When I paid my bill (did not realize this happened until a few minutes after the transaction), the lady at the front desk converted my Dollar rate to Pesos using a $1+62DP exchange rate, about 5% above the actual exchange rate of 59.5DP for that day. The charge on my card was then made in Pesos rather Dollars. The next-minute text on my phone from my US Bank indicated that my account was charged a Dollar amount that was approximately $10 above the guaranteed Dollar rate offered by Booking.com. (My VISA card, as is true with most high end cards, does not charge a foreign transaction fee). $10 extra because of their inflated exchange rate (the front desk didn't stop me from photographing the documents relevant to my reservation, including a photo of the calculator slip with the inflated conversion rate of 62 - Booking.com was subsequently sent copies of everything). The lady insisted that this was a hidden fee charged by my bank. They just ignored the inflated conversion rate. So even though I have stayed three or four times at this hotel over the last year, cheating me out of $10 this time was OK. Inflated conversion rates are used all over the city in street transactions or private currency exchange businesses. Its how they make money. But in a hotel with an alleged 4 or 5 star rating? I have top tier status with Booking.com, I figured they would resolve this in a day. Unfortunately, Booking.com was of zero help. After a month of back and forth, I got an email asking me for "the name of the merchant"!!!!! The emails in-between were often written in incoherent English.

Disappointing
This property is historical and is located adjacent to the walking street in the old city of Santo Domingo.
The property is now becoming run down and not maintain… It used to be a wonderful place and I look forward to staying there but now I’m not sure whether or not I will go back.
