Very Good
Valentina and her partner are one of the best host for accommodation I had. Communication before checking was good, they always want to make sure that you are ok during the visit the country, they gave good tips for travelling around, shops supermarkets and affordable restaurants. On arrival Valentina advised very well on excursions, surroundings, things to do, I was so glad that I booked my excursions with them as they know the best companies at good price and is fun to go with other people who are also staying at GAVA Hostel, I strongly recommend booking all the excursions with them. The accommodation itself is a small flat, very cosy and easy to meet other travellers, kitchen with all you need, toilet and a good size bathroom, nice front garden, beds where comfortable, clean, the whole flat was plotless clean, the room was small but enough for 4 people, fans where provided, quiet to sleep at night, beach 5-10 minutes walk with nice disco bar. I asked for a lower bunk bed and was reserved by them, anything that they can do, to make your stay more comfortable they will do it, they asked If I needed anything during my stay to let them know, shower towels provided. Good location near the beach, near supermarkets and shops. I would stay here again if I come back to Punta Cana, affordable price for the area.
No AC in the room, although fans are provided, not much negative feedback apart from that, they are super nice people.

WOW !!!.... Just....WOW !!!!
.
I've stayed at many hostels during all my travels, most of them Great !!
But the personal attention and commitment shown by the 2 owners to ensure that my (and other guests') stay, tours and whatever more were met is of an exceptionally high level !!!
It's a small hostel, which absolutely has its charms and the location near:
* For me one of th most picturesque palm tree filled beaches I've ever seen - only a 5 min. walk
* Various super markets (closest = 3min. Walk, furthest = 7 min. Walk)
* Various very affordable bars not only in town centre, but even better on that pristine beach within mentioned walking distances in a very safe area. No problem to walk alone around at night)
I booked all my tours through GAVA and they even were so committed that they both walked me (and on other days the other hostel guests) to the early 6:30-tour pick-up location to be sure I got on the right bus !!! (I mean...just WOW !!)
Additionally they were very eager to hear the experiences of the tour, so - if necessary - they could improve quality, expectation, service, etc. (....Just WOW !!)
GAVA really thought of practical things such as that:
* EVERY bed has an electrical socket prepared for most INTERNATIONAL plugs AND 2 USB-ports.
* Easy and trustworthy lockers for personal items it's with their key, so you don't have to buy a padlock or something.
* Beds AND cushions are very comfy. In fact...the moment you lay down, not sleeping is just NOT possible.
* Even though the room sleeps 4, the wooden bunkbeds were of such good quality they make absolutely no sound and do no wobble when somebody gets in / out of bed so the others don't get woken up unnecessarily !!
* Hostel is exceptionally clean and the owners make sure it stays that way !!
Every time I came back from staying elsewhere in Dom Rep, there was only one place I wanted to go back to....GAVA !!
Absolutely nothing NOT to like.....Just GREAT place

lovely place and the hosts were very very nice. Its small hostel for honestly has all you need. I will definitely recommend this place. Also the location is great yo have the beach very near as well as restaurants and markets
it was kind of hard to identify, the thing is that is located in a building but only one apartment is the hostel so that was kind of hard to find out

Wonderful
Gava Hostel is conveniently located, centrally, between the ocean, restaurants and local tourist shopping, a short distance walk from each. Currency exchange from American dollars to Dominican Pesos is available nearby. Businesses accept both currencies. However, using Pesos provides a better deal.
Fellow travelers who leave worn clothing on the floor makes it difficult for hosts to clean the room and laundry is an eyesore. When the room was humid and minimally aerated, I became sick from a fellow traveler who was sick. Fans and keeping the door and windows open helped. For longer than 1 week stay, it would be great to have a scheduled 1 day shopping excursion or more information about local big grocery store shopping and transit.

There have beach around.
The staff was very very rough, not helpful at all. The room is very small. The area is not nice at all, there is no nice place to go around, specially compared with other locations. The place is way way overpriced!!!
The place is not like a real hostel its like a room.

Wonderful
Andrew and Valentina open their house to you and really give you space. Thank you for allowing us to visit Punta Cana with a reasonable rate.
1 - The insistent flirting of the Dominicans. The worst of the Caribbean... 2 - Very rude airport staff !

A great place to meet new travelers. Clean rooms and washrooms. A close walk to the Beach, mini markets, restaurants but not the clubs like the ones at Juntos Beber. Over all a good experience
My bunk bed number 4 it was needs a new mattress. It sunk in the middle and accumulated moisture from my sweat quite rapidly and hence I had to shift around to maintain some semblance of dryness. I was able to sleep well despite the over used mattress.

Nice and clean, good internet and location, nice owners
Is called hostel but is in fact a guesthouse. Should consider working with a cheaper taxi transfer company, changing the fans, adding side tables on the upper beds and proper sun blocking curtains

Poor
The hostel is small (only room for four people) so it helps to meet people staying there in a more personal manner. It is really an apartment, the hosts are a russian couple who live there and keep cleaning the place. They are friendly and in general they like to speak with the tourists. It is hard to find, but there are lots of shops and restaurants nearby, as well as the beach.
THE WATER! It smells terribly bad, it is true that it is not for drinking in Punta Cana, but I got sick just brushing my teeth or showering there. Now I am taking antibiotics and such because of it. The mattresses are old, and the tours are expensive. You have to pay all your stay upfront ONLY in cash, so it doesn't give you any freedom if you want to change to somewhere else. Also you have to pay for almost any little thing there. Additionally, they base the payments in US dollars, you can pay in Dominican pesos but with a too high change rate. The place is hard to find, it is better that you locate it on google before hand, because people around it don't know it and you might spend hours searching for the place.
Thank you for your information!
