Beautiful building which backs onto the the grounds of the castle (over the river). Lovely area to sit outside in the evenings, and the bar was available for us to use. Our room also had a view over the gardens. Wonderful staff who were helpful and kind. Breakfast was excellent.
The bathroom in our (very spacious) room was a little cramped. The hotel is on a main road, but we didn't notice this once in the hotel itself so it wasn't a problem. Good parking out the back.

It was relatively clean.
The breakfast was not included, but I learnt it only after I ordered based on the reviews that mostly praised the breakfast. The area didn’t feel safe at night. The owners of the hotel insisted to call me on my phone and couldn’t understand I have a different sim when traveling abroad. They didn’t send me clear instructions for self checkin. I arrived at night and was bushwhacking to find the “side door”. It’s an old historic building nice from outside, but the room is filled with old cheap not matching furniture and it looks like army barracks. Also there were flies inside my room.

Interesting historical building. Very large rooms.
Booked two doubles, one for two people, the other for three. The triple was €25 more expensive with an extra bed but otherwise identical size to the double.
After booking the hotel phoned to say we could to pay an extra €25 if we wanted an extra bed in the triple rather than three sharing the double, and “if that was ok” they’d take payment for that now. I said it wasn’t ok as I’d already paid extra for the triple. I had to send them my booking confirmation by email before they relented. It’s just profiteering. The extra bed isn’t worth €25 anyway as the rooms are identical to doubles and breakfast is at an extra cost pp too.
The building is old and the rooms reflect that. They should however be cleaner. No one had swept under the double bed for a very long time!

Decent and clean and good central location
We were surprised hotel reception closed at 5pm so no one there just a note and key and then had to phone to be directed to apartment in building across the street. It was fine but would have much preferred to be in main hotels which looked nice from what we saw next morning- and also to have someone there to check in etc.

We chose this hotel for its location and secure parking. We discovered that it is a true gem. An old mansion with quality modern facilities and rooms. The breakfast was varied and very good. We plan to return someday.
Reception closes at 6pm- after that you need to use a side door. We didn’t really mind about this - I mention it as something to note.

The breakfast was excellent, with a lot of variety to suit anyone's preferences. Beautiful dining room and view.
I honestly cannot thing of a thing I would change. It was an absolutely lovely place.

Great location with easy access to the Gottorf Schloss and Museum. Clean and quiet room. Wonderful breakfast (additional charge but well worth it). Welcoming and helpful staff.

The breakfast was superb, the best we had in nearly 5 weeks of travel. Beds were comfortable and amenities great. The owners were helpful booking us a taxi and giving directions to places we needed to find.
No faults with the property at all, any problems with our stay were caused by recent floods that had most restaurants closed, and access to the nearby Schloss museum a challenge. Plus, DB cancelled our train and didn't tell us!
