The ambience was wonderful and relaxing. The included breakfast was delicious with a great variety. The service was excellent. Location was great access to walking to the train station, across the street basically and not far to the historical area.
The showers needs a rubber mat for safety, so slippery.

Bad service staff. And lack of basic amenities. No complimentary drinking water. No water boiler even when I called, staff mentioned there’s a coffee machine, then what’s the tea bag for in room?

I have been staying at the Excelsior for many years, as the location is fabulous for reaching all of Munich, much by foot, but trams and S-Bahn within a few minutes.
It is a pity that Schutzenstrasse, and the old Karlstadt are derelict and there is no vehicular access, or underground parking as in the past. Similarly, it must be difficult to market such a gem in a deserted street with little footfall. It remains our little secret haven when visiting Munich and Bavaria.

Wonderful
Well furnished and very clean rooms. It was the most clean room I have ever seen (due to my job I travel a lot across the Europe). Staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant is very professional and you can have a very proper dinner if you would like to dine at hotel. Hotel is very close to Munich Main Train Station (Hauptbahnhof) and to touristic locations like Marienplatz. I was even able to walk to museums like Deutsche Museum, Arthe Pinotheke and to English Garden.

The room was fantastic - plenty of room, compfy bed, quiet, clean, couch to laze on - Bathroom was also good : no complaints ! Id also like to commend the hotel on its mini bar pricing policy of everything being 2 EURO ... including beer! Very reasonable ... Most other hotels charge exhorbitant prices for their mini bar products and therefore never sell any! Well done Excelsior ...
Look if you are on the eh ... larger side ... the shower in the bath may be an issue... its a tad tight to move around! But thats being a bit picky ...

I was given a room on the first floor, located among several rooms where workshops were being held. Early in the morning, I was disturbed by loud voices and the constant noise of doors opening and closing. In addition, the refrigerator in the room was not cooling properly
