Disappointing
Very nice and friendly staff. I asked to change my room and they did it smooth and easy. Good location, near to Metro station, EDEKA, Lidl, and bakery (5 min walk) and lots of restaurant, bar, ice cream and coffee shops in the walking range. Easy to access city center by bus of Metro or even walking (of course 35-45 min) Free breakfast for free in compare to price of the other hotels in the same area (at least at the time of our reservation). It was very very simple, however, enough to get full.
I reserved late, however too expensive price for such a hotel (better call it Motel) and service. I have reserved two same rooms, but got 2 different rooms. One was much smaller than the other one. And in one of the rooms there were a big window in the bathroom. Unbelievable! They can see you during your shower. It is not a strip dance room! Breakfast was too simple, even I asked if they have a [boiled] egg. No cucumber, no milk, no fresh cheese, no eggs, no sausage, no pancake, ... , and even there is no coffee machine and you should ask the waiter/es every time for a cup of coffee or little milk for baby. Moreover, if you come late, you will find nothing to eat. The elevator is too small and too slow, just enough space for 2 persons. We had problem for baby stroller. Very tiny entrance corridor,, No ramp or elevator for stroller or wheelchair to go inside the hotel and also restaurant area. Only steps. Very soft pillow and bed. some may like it, but we didn't. If you have car, be careful about lack of parking space in the streets.

Location and staff were great.
Window between sleeping area and bathroom eliminated privacy. Location of Shower and shower head made for difficult use. No air conditioning which forced use of open windows therefore exposing room to high level of street noise.

I am happy to recommend the Nikolai Hotel. Value for money, good location. The staff were friendly and helpful.
I did find the pillows much too soft: personal taste, I suppose. The room did not have tea or coffee making facilities, like a jug and instant tea/ coffee, but then, on looking, these were not part of the room description, so I should not have been surprised.
