Comfortable and rather large room.
Good location to get around by foot.
The air con was incredibly loud.
The area is not the safest but it is more affordable.
We were charged for bottled water that was supposedly ordered by us at a time we were not even at the hotel (out for dinner). When we protested the lady only asked if we were paying card or cash. That was quite strange.

Very nice once inside the hotel, but the neighborhood is sketchy and has two strip clubs and betting parlors down the block.

Lovely and classic building. The room was very spacious. There were several windows and all of them could be widely opened.
Breakfast was just great! Huge variety of everything, and there was also an option to squeeze oranges for a juice. The staff were also friendly and helpful.

A very courteous and professional staff that made our stay a memorable one. The breakfast had a nice spread, the beds were comfortable and the location made it perfect. Access to metro and other local transport made it easy to travel, and a host of options to dine out made this a convenient place to stay. Enjoyed our stay at the Alpen! Highly recommended.

The property is located close to the major railway terminal- a 7 minute walk. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes close by. The facilities were good and the room was quiet. The room was carpeted and quite large. Breakfast was adequate.
It had a very small lift which is really not an issue. I don’t think the room had tea/ coffee facilities.

On arrival we were offered an upgrade for €160 as our Classic Comfort Double Room "hadn’t been refurbished." We declined only to find our room was a twin (two single beds pushed together), not the double we had booked based on picture on website. 2 staff members insisted this was a double, despite the separate frames & mattresses moving apart easily—clearly not suitable for a couple.
When we made this point, we were told there were no true doubles left in that category, and needed to pay €80 to upgrade to one. Staff claimed the twin setup was “better” and “preferred by German guests,” which made little sense if we had to pay extra to avoid it.
We refused to pay more for what we had already booked. Sadly, it meant sacrificing comfort. Overall, it felt like an upselling tactic rather than an honest welcome. We weren’t asking for a free upgrade—just what we’d paid for.
EDIT AFTER REPLY FROM PROPERTY - Property ignores our point that the photo for our room type shows one mattress covering 2 single beds which is common enough in a lot of countries, and would be acceptable as a double bed, not the 2 single mattresses. Also, we have stayed in German hotels before and not had this issue. They had the spare rooms and didn't wish to sort this problem except for more money. We plan to return to Munich but their hope for us to return to Alpen Hotel will be in vain. A 4 star hotel with a 2 star attitude.
