Location, cleanliness. Polite and helpful staff
Didn’t know how the blinds worked and it was 1 am when we got our rooms so late to be getting staff to help. Just wanted some sleep!

I was very happy with the spacious size of the room and the comfy bed (so many hotels today have rock-hard mattresses but this hotel had a deliciously comfortable mattress). The breakfast was fantastic and I was very pleased I booked it. There was a lot of variety. The hotel was close to the station, which is why I selected it, so that was very convenient. The WIFI worked fine, and there was a free bottle of water in the room each day.
Only a few small things worth mentioning:
* The drains (toilet) smelled bad and I think more use of bleach would help (room 531).
* There was no kettle or tea / coffee making facilities in the room (unusual for a 4 star hotel).
* The keys to the room are really difficult to operate and the receptionist had to come to help me.
* If I wanted to book in at midday / before 3pm, it would have costed me 45 Euros. This is pretty outrageous as most hotels will give you the key free if the room is ready.
* I got a message from the hotel 2 days before arrival telling me that I had booked a different category of room (which I had not) and that if I wanted my originally booked room, it would cost me 15 Euros a night. Fortunately this situation did not materialise when I arrived.

Spacious room with a balcony facing the central railway station, large windows, high ceiling, very bright. Excellent breakfast, large nice lobby and bar. Got an excellent deal on it as well, which is greatly appreciated.
The key to the room is a masterpiece of the dark German genius, a half-electronic, half-mechanic, and it is more on thou shall not pass side - it fails to unlock the door 4 times out of 5. The good news is that on the 4th day of the stay I finally figured that one has to hold the door knob first - it adds the missing capacity to the German electronics and everything unlocks from the first try! The door knob is comfortably warm which adds a nice feeling. The most confusing key I ever experienced in my life. One also had to hand it off to the reception when leaving for the city, a nice but slightly annoying anachronism.

Nicely located two steps from the main train station. City center 10 mins walking distance. Nice breakfasts, spacious and clean rooms with classy old-style feeling.
Hotel has well preserved but somewhat outdated amenities. Having mechanical keys to enter room, switch on the lights and give it to the receptionist every time you go out is a bit of a stretch for 21st century. Locking room from inside is possible only during day light, because door key is attached to a electricity key, otherwise you need to do it in complete darkness. Also such door may be a big obstacle if you need to evacuate for whatever the reason, i'm pretty sure you're not allowed to build hotels this way anymore. My room had no AC but managed to be rather hot even in May, probably because of mansarde, opening window helped but there is train station nearby with lots of trams passing by and making quite some noise.

Personally, I like hotels with a bit of old world charm and character, even if some decor might appear dated. I dislike the renovated, sterile modern places with no soul. That said, everything that is important is here- good beds, hot water, great breakfast, nice bar, courteous employees and cleanliness and reasonable cost. I would stay here again-

Excellent breakfast with efficient service. Friendly and helpful staff at the reception. Clean room and comfortable bed. Proximity to the city centre.
Lack of tea/coffee making facities in the room. Limited number of private parking spaces under the hotel building and the need to park outside at a much higher rate (staying for two nights in the hotel means paying for three callendar i.e. 48 Euros instead of 36 Euro in the hotel).
