Wonderful
Absolutely fantastic location; stepping out the door puts you in the heart of the old town action. Two blocks to the castle train, one block to the wine fest, two blocks to the nightlife bars (close, but not close enough to be loud at all, and we had our windows open all night). The staff was warmly welcoming and eager to help. The breakfast was good, and had lots of fresh cut fruit for a difference from other German hotels. We stayed in the "family room" on the top floor, which would have been great for kids - unusually lots of floor space and big beds. Parking at the Kornplatz lot (the same one to take the train up to the castle) was a simple short walk, and be sure to get a ticket from the desk on checkout for a reduced rate (just insert the normal Parkplatz ticket in the auto pay machine, then the one from the hotel, and it will apply the discount before you pay).
With any historical building, installing (and maintaining and cleaning) showers and restrooms is a challenge. If you are large in stature or physique, the showers here (sliding glass doors) will probably simply not fit you. As it was however, I managed as a tall male who managed to knock the hot water to full cold, and bump the doors open, only a few times! If you can tolerate that, this is a great value property in a great location. One other thought; there are no lifts/elevators (see "historical building" comment) so if you are mobility limited this isn't for you, if you can't do stairs.

Pleasant
The location is excellent for shopping and for taking the funicular to the Castle. The breakfast was nice, and the staff was exceptional.
The room was a top floor with sloped walls ideal for knocking your head or shoulders. It was very hot. No A/C as advertised.

The staff was cheerful and helpful, the breakfast was excellent.
Although the price was great, it is time for replacement of some of the broken and stained furniture and carpet.

Wonderful
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel am Rathaus in Heidelberg. The location is excellent and easy to reach , well sign posted as well. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel . The room size is good . The mattresses were a bit soft for our comfort. The room is clean and tidy.
The only complain from our side is the bed being soft

We had an amazing stay at Hotel am Rathaus . The location was perfect, close to all the main attractions. The staff were friendly and helpful, always greeting us with a smile. The breakfast buffet was very good. We'll definitely be back!

My one night rate was Euro 125.1. When I was checked out, I paid 150 Euro in cash. The guy did not hand me the changes. What a greedy person!

Good location
The place was old and dirty (e.g. fridge and bathroom). We requested a baby bed which was unstable and dirty with residues of dirt from previous kids. The floor was crooked and on top of that, despite being with a baby and the place did not have an elevator, they gave us a room in the 4th floor and I had to carry up and then down all the stuff.

Pleasant
Lovely heritage hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was simple but comfy. Conveniently situated around the corner from the Schloss Heidelberg. The whole area is very picturesque, lots of places to eat right at your doorstep. Heidelberg is a university town and on a Saturday night, all the kids like to hang out in the square right next to the hotel. Sadly they kept up the noise all night.
