Disappointing
The only good point was that it is next to the Philharmonie in Essen.
The room has been really unpleasant since it stuck after cigarette smoke… the restaurant closed later in evening and even the bar closed (?)

Very Good
Very nice spacious room, lovely bathroom and very comfortable bed. Restaurant is very good, friendly service and bar is good place to relax after busy days.
Charging points old fashioned - a USB charging point would be nice. Decent coffee machine, coffee, and tea in rooms would be an improvement.

I was genuinely surprised by the generous room size, large bathrooms, very comfortable beds, and very kind and attentive staff (check in, breakfast and restaurant). One evening, I decided to have a simple dinner at the hotel restaurant, and it turned out to be a great choice: delicious food, very friendly staff, a reasonable menu selection, and beautifully presented dishes.
A couple of minor drawbacks: the hotel can be a bit noisy, mainly due to older, loud lifts and some doors that don’t close quietly, and the gym is quite small and feels cramped. Light sleepers may want to bring earplugs.
Gym is very small.

Location close to Philharmonie and Theater. Walkable into town centre - about 10 minutes. Lovely park to the rear. Great food in the restaurant. Nice grand piano which I played late in the evening for the guests. Room was luxurious and large.
I couldn’t get the heating down below a certain temperature. Despite it being around freezing outside when I stayed, I could not get the room cool enough to sleep, so had to open the window. But with the curtains fully closed, it wasn’t Baltic.
