Disappointing
location only. But there was a construction around and it was not easy to walk with a suitcase from the train station.
There was road construction work all around the hotel, which made walking difficult, especially when carrying a suitcase. I had difficulty from train station to hotel I stayed for four nights. Unfortunately, my room was not cleaned during the entire stay, and on the last night I had to get clean towels myself from reception. On the second day, I asked the receptionist about it and he showed me a notice saying guests need to request room cleaning and specify how often they want it on checkin. This was never explained to me during check-in, and it was easy to miss among the information at the desk. Such an important detail shouldn't be left on a small announcement plate which is unnoticable! I clearly told him that my room needed cleaning and that I needed fresh towels. He noted it down, but the room was still not cleaned the next day. Since I was on a business trip and leaving early / returning late, I didn’t get another chance to speak with reception. In my opinion, this was not fair, especially because room cleaning and clean towels are included in the price. Another issue was the limited storage space. There were not enough hangers for a longer stay, and there was no wardrobe or shelves, only wall-mounted hooks for hanging clothes. For 1–2 nights it would be fine, but may not be ideal for longer stays. There was also a slight musty smell in the corridors and in the room, although it was manageable.

Disappointing
The location was very good and central, just a few meters from the main Essen train station. There are works happening on the street so was a bit tricker to access but still fine. The reception in the evening was very nice though he couldn't address my problem with heating and pain smell but there is so much a man can do. The bed and bedding were very good - I managed to sleep despite the cold (see comments below). The kettle in the room was fantastic to have and helped with the cold. Breakfast was good too.
On the day of arrival the room was freezing cold and the air conditioner wasn't adjustable and room had a smell of paint. I asked Reception for help and they suggested hanging rooms but the room i was offered was stinking of paint. On the second day the temperature was bearable however there was no hot water! Upon check in I've been told I don't have breakfast in my reservation despite the fact that I had it - when I shoed reservation on my screen they did see that breakfast was indeed included. Also, it took ages to the check out receptionist to input the address i needed to be on a receipt despite the fact that I wrote this address when i checked in they didn't have it so I had to give it again and wait for ages until they retyped it. He also sent it to my email but I haven't received it (yes, I did check the trash and spam folders). Overall I would expect a better stay from a hotel that has Hilton in its name. Hot water and warm room is not much to ask.

Great location walking distance from Essen HBF (Train station). Tram stop next to Train station. Smallhotel with good WiFi. Staff were generally helpful. Checkout is 12 noon which was good.
Restaurant was closed. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss. No croissants on day 2. Bread tastes a bit too processed. Room was too hot. AC was not working. Had to request another room. Heard that the hotel is closing soon.

Nice, simple design, warm colours. Acceptable continental breakfast. Good Wi-Fi. Clean properly. Walking distance the shopping centre and the metro station.
Awful pillows. Morning at 7 the roadworks started in front of the hotel. You can hear also the metros. Advice: earplugs are necessary. Parking in front of the hotel 2.20 euro per hour but the parking is nearly full of hard to park in because of the vans from the road workers. Hotel parking 15 euro per day behind the hotel.

Good location. Near the station but felt safe. There were plenty of shops in the station area. Comfortable room, nice breakfast, and everything worked.
Service was sometimes a bit slow. Checking in took a long time even though there was no queue. To be fair, this is Germany, and the service was efficient when finally delivered. A slightly later breakfast option would be nice.
