If you prefer to stay outside of the city, then this hotel is just a perfect choice. it is small, but cosy with home-like feeling right by the cycling path. Staff was communicative and trying to make your stay pleasant.
The mattress on the bad could have been changed. It has already been worn out.

Wonderful
Family run hotel, everyone we came in contact with was very friendly and welcoming. Due to our travel situation we requested a check-in outside of the normal hours that was easily accommodated with a smile. Typical German breakfast was perfect, everything was fresh and tasty.
It's an old building and it shows but the rooms were nicely decorated and charming. We will certainly book again on our next trip to Essen.
Not much to say here, everything was as described and met all of our needs.

It was horrible from the moment it was booked. Problems getting back from the host. They would answer one question but not most.
It says they speak English but this is limited.
On arrival the reception was closed. We had no warning of this but luckily my phone still had some battery left so able to phone. On phoning the man informed me it was a safety box and told me the password but this wouldn’t have happened if I’d no charge on phone.
Getting to the room it was stuffy and hot. No fans were provided to help the air circulate. It was 30 degrees on arrival.No kettle was provided and lamps were positioned far away from power points. There was a stale odour. The cupboard in the room was old and when trying to put things away the handle fell off.
In the morning breakfast was disappointing hard bread and a few bits of cooked meat and cheese. No fruit put out.
Even though the hotel was almost empty we were threatened with an extra charge, even though we were out of our room by 11:06.
On checking out they added an extra €5 for my daughter as I had mistakenly put her in as a 1 year old but she was 15. This would’ve been ok had she been able to eat anything more than a bowl of cereal. I had booked the room for three people so that was needed.
Location is appalling, on a busy road. No sleep was had by any of our party.
When checking out I raised these issues and the receptionist said she had been kind. I’m not sure that we share the same understanding of kind. I paid £130 for her to be kind.

Breakfast was ok. Bed was comfortable. Shower was ok. Loved the shower gel. Restaurant net door was convenient (not it was not open Monday night).
One of the rooms smelt musty and needed airing. The furniture in the other room was old and wobbly. At times the planes landing into Dusseldorf airport was continuous, it did stop at night.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was just what was needed for 2 people. Breakfast was ideal and at 5 Euros each morning, it started the day perfectly. Continental style, but good choice too.
Restaurant behind the hotel was great too, lovely lunch there. With not much around, but a small village close by, it was goo access for a lunchtime.

Absolutely overpriced for what you get. Compares to an old youth hostel. You'll hear everything from what's happening around you as if it's happening in your room. Had trouble finding rest.

Do not believe what is advertised on the picture, our rooms were old and used furnitures.
On the 2nd floor with 3 kids and no lift! Stairs abrupt.
Our rooms were not well cleaned. Some pieces left from previous guests makes you wonder what is actually wiped or not. Check in only between 3pm to 7pm is not helping much. First time I see this short timeframe for a hotel.
