Location.
Cannot book parking and the carpark was full when we arrived just before 3pm (check-time). Around the same time. there were at least other 5 cars who tried to access the carpark and we all had to park on the street. If the carpark is so small you should allow reservations in line with room reservations.

It was clean and the room was nice. Breakfast was great and the stuff really nice
On the wall above the windows, it seems it was forgotten to be painted (room 511). There were a lot of numbers written on it. The carpet has some patches. We didn’t sleep well ass the mattrass was very hard and the pillows too soft. (Would propose to add another pillow so you can choose). For the price I expect these small things to be reviewed.

The logistics in the breakfast room made no sense at all. Also lack of trash cans in the halls, hallways etc.

The hotel is 5' walk from Subway and 10' drive from one of the Messe parking lots - since I go to Essen every year for the Spiel, that's convenient. It has an amazing breakfast, which is basically what makes me come back: hot food includes scrambled eggs, and depending on the day, English breakfast or German sausages, etc. Wide variety of breads, cold cuts, cheeses, all really good. There's parking in the hotel (but paid apart), with 2 electric chargers. At night, there's a room for playing games, with drinks available (including beer on tap). They used to have nice flammkuchen (kind of thin pizzas) too, but they're gone, this time was only currywurst.
Frontdesk service is OK, but a bit dry: there's some weird rules about having to notify the day *before* if you want the room cleaned, changing reservation details is always a nightmare (usually not possible), everything is first a "no" than a "maybe", and so on (during breakfast the service is great, though). Like most hotels in Essen, during big events like Spiel, it's exorbitantly expensive for what it delivers - and doing room upgrades is a waste of money. Rooms are very barebone: airco doesn't usually work well and it's noisy, frigobar is a joke (no cooling at all), shower and bathrooms are not exactly nice. In summary, that's not a nice hotel for staying, per se, but a convenient sleeping place to go visit and enjoy the Spiel.
