Perfect location (5m walk from Essen Hbf) with reasonable room rate. Very friendly staff.
Many reviews mentioned that the hotel was noisy, and I completely understood what they meant. There was ongoing road construction right in front of the hotel throughout my entire 10-night stay, and the frequent sound of ambulances or police sirens startled me both day and night. I’m not particularly sensitive to noise, so it was manageable, especially considering the room rate and location.

The location was mixed. It's close to the train station and center of town. The street, though, is rather seedy and unclean.
My only concern, which is important, was the housekeeper entered my room although I had the Do NOT DISTURB sign on my door. To her surprise, I was in there. I did report the incident to a manager.

Everything was fine, the hotel is very close to the railway station, at the same time it’s located in a quiet area. There are many good restaurants around. The personal was very friendly, the breakfast was delicious. It was useful to have radiators in both bedroom and bathroom — so it was always warm. For me the only problem was the lack of sound isolation — I could hear the neighbors from the next rooms and from the top talking and doing their stuff. So after 6am I struggled to sleep because of the noise from other rooms. Also there was a gap in the door of our room so we could hear everything from the corridor. Also, in my opinion, the hotel needs to be renovated, but for its money in total it’s ok.
