We arrived Koeln late due to 2.5 hours train delay. Well, the lady who did the check-in did not appear to be friendly. After we had entered the room, we found the window open; and thus we expected to have better air-cond after some time. But it was not true and I could hardly sleep in the heat wave (but we did not expect help in the midnight). In the next morning, we asked the reception to change room, and luckily we met Mrs A. Yurchenko, who later on checked our room together. After some discussion, she managed to arrange us to another room (not facing the west). Afterwards, we also asked her for more tourist info, and she is very helpful.
the air-conditioning system is not catered for the heat wave. The hotel should have known which rooms are not suitable for guests, and we do believe that the air-cond in our 1st room was out of order - the hotel did send some technicians to check in the next morning.
The breakfast room and collection look great but the hot food is not kept warm enough eg the scrambled egg.

The rooms are huge, and location excellent. Also the staff are wonderful.
The buffet ran out of food quite badly on both days I stayed. Also whilst the buffet was fabulous and extensive...it had no bacon?
Also the pool is in the basement and is small and dark, I had assumed it was a roof top one which was my mistake.

A beautiful hotel in a great location.
One of the reasons to pick this hotel was that it was advertised as fully air conditioned, but instead there was no air conditioning and even the technician Fareed that was called in to check it out and did his best could not resolve it and he and the front office staff said that a solution would be to get an upgrade to a room which the windows could be opened. I am making a very strong point, that in that kind of scorching weather, functional chillers are mandatory for this calibre of a hotel and opening windows is not a solution. The air vents from the ducting was just blowing ambient air which manifest’s dysfunctional chillers, which is highly unacceptable.
As a result we did not have a good night sleep for 2 nights out of the 4 nights

Excellent location. Right in the city center, within walking distance of the cathedral and close to the Rhine River. There is a wide range of public transportation options right next to the hotel. The Lanxess Arena is just two tram stops away.
At the same time, the hotel is quiet and peaceful. The room was clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The sofa bed was not comfortable. It was tilted to one side. The lighting in the evening was very dim.

Disappointing
Good Location near Heumarkt U-Bahn Station.
It was hot during my stay, between 27 and 32 degrees each of my four days. I chose Maritim SPECIFICALLY because it offered AC. The AC in my room was imperceptible- the fan did blow but was never a bit cold. I asked for a fan and got a tiny space heater with one (WEAK) fan setting. Beds are not comfortable, with this weird plasticky mattress protector layer but even if they were better, the warmth in the room (with fixed windows! Windows that faced a glassed in courtyard that was itself a horrid heat sink) made this moot because it was just so uncomfortable. I had the breakfast buffet day 1 because it was on offer for "only" €21 (normally €26) and was nothing special. The place is filthy, with old stained carpet everywhere....save your money.

The close location to the cathedral, the station and the Rhine is good. The room was clean and the shower easy to use and hot. Breakfast buffet was extensive in choice.
This hotel is impersonal, tacky, hot and more like a shopping mall than a hotel. The rooms are on many floors and all the lifts stopped working within an hour of us checking-in. The king bed was 2 singles beds made up as singles and pushed together. I note that both of these comments have been referred to in previous reviews. I was looking forward to using the gym and pool but the gym is inadequate with one set of weights and the changing area most uninviting and mixed sex with limited cubicles. More like a school pool changing room than a 4star hotel. The main hotel area with range of shops and restaurants is a glass atrium that is unbearably hot. This is where breakfast is served.
