The dining room is spectacular and for breakfast we were able to help ourselves from a lovely array of fresh and tasty options. Staff were all very helpful and we appreciated reliable advice from the Reception Team with planning our activities and how to get there. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the Old Town centre and there is also a tram stop 5 minutes up the road which was handy for getting to places such as the castle. It was quite cold outside during our stay and lovely to come back to a luxurious hot bath with quality products. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. We ate at the hotel most evenings and every meal was cooked to perfection and also a bit different to the usual hotel fare. I especially enjoyed the baked halibut and poppy seed ice-cream for dessert.
When we arrived there was a coffee maker in the room but, as a tea-drinker, I needed a kettle. When I asked at reception one was brought up to the room within 5 minutes.

Cleanliness, beauty of hotel; willingness of staff at front desk to sssist two 80 year old guests. The chandelier in the room added to the luxurious feeling of the room.

If your idea of a five-star experience is stepping into a perfectly preserved Soviet-era time capsule, this may be the place for you.
Do not rely on the room photos. The rooms are very small, with shower-in-the-bath setups and fully carpeted floors that feel dated rather than charming. The Art Deco elements are mildly cute, but ultimately underwhelming, especially when weighed against the overall service and facilities.
The much-publicised breakfast is genuinely poor, closer to an airport lounge than anything approaching a four- or five-star standard. Worse still, if your room includes breakfast, you are not permitted to order from the regular menu. You must eat at the trough provided.
Staff are polite but entirely devoid of warmth or any sense of hospitality. Interactions feel transactional rather than welcoming.
The only real positives are the location, which is convenient to the Old Square, and the fact that the hotel is adequately heated.
In short, nostalgic in the wrong ways, disappointing in the ones that matter.
