Very Good
Swim up bar. Buffet breakfast with egg bar. Proximity to beach.
Found out the hard way that directly across from hotel, Playa Cocles has rip currents. I barely made it out.

Good
The grounds, the lush greenery and wildlife.
Rooms: The jungle rooms are small and feel rather dark.
Breakfast: Rather simple, not many good options except for the fruits.

Very Good
I liked the proximity to the great beach Playa Cocles and the nearby restaurants. Access and egress to and from the beach was easy. Our dwelling was very comfortable and clean. The food at breakfast was very good and the restaurant area and pool were nice. The monkeys and sloths in the trees at the property and along the beach were neat to see.
Some of the frogs or insects made a lot of noise at night. It was a long walk to pack our suitcases in the rain. Most of the resort staff were nice and helpful, but a couple of them were not very friendly.

Across the street from Playa Cocles, our room was a few minutes walk to sand and surf! Seeing the sloths, poolside.
Nothing.

Disappointing
The fresh fruit and (sometimes) pancakes at breakfast were great. My son seemed to enjoy the omelet station as well, and the hot chocolate and coffee were great. The bartender, Andrey, at the pool, was the best part about the hotel. He was friendly and personable.
Front desk was woefully understaffed, with people waiting ages to check in or out or get towels or directions. Just one guy there AT CHECK IN TIME!! Ridiculous!! It also took 40 minutes just to get a sandwich from the restaurant. Lots of staff wandering around but nobody helping customers. Also, the guy who starts leaf blowing at 7 am, loudly, on and off, on and off, close to the rooms. That needs to stop. People are there to rest!!! Room was rusty and dirty and old. I think they have updated one room that they use for pictures and the rest are old and dingy. And the pool was murky and oily.

Fair
The location in the jungle and next to Cocles beach is nice and the grounds are well maintained. The pool area is pleasant, although it does not compensate for the overall experience.
The hotel is extremely overpriced for what it offers. The rooms are clearly outdated, with poor finishes, very low water pressure in the shower and an overall lack of comfort.
The place has no soul or atmosphere and feels like a poorly executed vacation club, with wristbands and an excessive focus on selling add-ons. Everything is monetized: bike rentals, towel loss fees, excursions, etc., but none of it feels relevant or well thought out.
The excursions are particularly overpriced and clearly designed for inexperienced tourists. After three nights, we were genuinely relieved to leave.

I loved the food at this property? The cheeseburgers were amazing. All the food was extraordinary. The property is also beautiful. The lushness of greenery and sloths were a tremendous sight to see.
I had a fantastic time there.

I loved that there were animals like howler monkeys and agouti roaming around. I also loved that I could walk across the road to the beach.

Wonderful
We absolutely loved our time at Cariblue. It hugely surpassed my expectations, I would chose it again if we go back to the area, we didn't want to leave! We loved the setting - really felt immersed in Jungle, saw toucans, hummingbirds and more just from our balcony, and spotted mum and baby sloth in a tree in the grounds. Right next to lovely beach, with some food options nearby, can easily access other beaches and town with TukTuks, Uber or using the bikes. Beautiful room (superior king jungle) and balcony, and located in a quiet area of the hotel grounds which is what I asked for, so that was really appreciated. Spotless cleaning, new towels and made bed every day. Lovely, helpful staff, and grounds and facilities are well looked after. We also really appreciated the eco/wildlife conscious-efforts the hotel makes!
There was some noise (construction/wood cutting) going on next to where the yoga classes were (could it be paused during that hour?). There is a wood workshop and some construction going on in just that area of the hotel, it's not near any of the main facilities or our room so only bothered us for the yoga. Food in the hotel is fairly expensive, though I don't think it differed too much from everywhere else in the area.

Pleasant
The property location was great, the breakfast is the best part of the stay and the staff was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the pool and the wet bar as well as the happy hour cocktails. The property is full of animals which we enjoyed. We stayed at the beach apartment and the layout and size was very comfortable for a family of 3
The room was not properly cleaned, we found a significant amount of animal poop on our balcony as soon as they gave us the room after check in. The room was lacking maintenance for example: fridge door was broken with sharp edges, doors and handles where broken and didn’t function as intended and bathroom door was crooked and didn’t closed resulting in lack of privacy.
Check in process was confusing since we received via booking a message stating not to pay via WhatsApp, then promptly got a message from the hotel requesting payment via a link sent on WhatsApp. We called the hotel and we were prompted back to the link but at this point we weren’t comfortable paying this way and they stated that they couldn’t take a credit card - the only other option was a bank wire transfer which we couldn’t do since we don’t own accounts in Costa Rica. Upon arrival they did accept our credit card , but the whole process was confusing and stressful.

Wonderful
Beautiful, safe, easy, friendly, wild life, close to cool stuff and beach, very helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Onsite meals, massage, swim up bar. Tours available.
Gaps in floorboards of jungle bungalow. Had some unsettling critter experiences one night. It is the jungle however, so that’s probably bound to happen anywhere.
