Wonderful
Alfiz is a refreshing calm in the midst of a very busy city. The moment you are welcomed you are in an oasis. The staff is warm and helpful, the air is sweet and the decor is simple and refined.
Not easy to find. There is no large street sign and our taxi went round and round as we tried to spot our destination.

The people at the reception were incredible. They were so friendly and always available to answer questions. The facilities are fantastic. I can’t say enough about the thoughtfulness of everything. From the delicious lightly juiced water by the front door to the huge old-school stucco shower/bath in our room.
The pool area is small, only 2 chairs and very little shade in the heat of the day. Also I’m not sure why it wasn’t filled up all the way. It was half full so only went a bit above our knees! However, there are two brother-hotels where we could have used the pools. We never wanted the hassle of that.

Wonderful
The location was fantastic. It’s right in the old walled city, close to the cathedral. It’s near great restaurants and grocery stores. We didn’t make it to breakfast, but heard the breakfast at their sister hotels is great and is included in the price. The bed was comfortable, the A/C worked well, the shower was hot, and the pillows were perfect. It was pretty quiet at night. The only thing we didn’t love was the blanket on the bed was really thin. We should’ve turned the A/C down as we were a little cold at night. Overall it was a great stay and we would stay again.

It was really nice to have the free breakfast included but also to have the option to have breakfast at two of the other sister hotels within walking distance, which provided a little variety. We also loved that the hotel was able to accommodate our early check in request because our room was unoccupied- this allowed us to drop our bags, freshen up and immediately explore the city. We were sad to hear they plan to renovate the hotel to a more modern look, the historic charm of the hotel is what makes it so special. You feel a part of the local architecture versus modern fixtures in a historical city. We encourage the hotel to maintain its old Cartagena magic.
The WiFi was very spotty.

Disappointing
The building and the rooms are certainly boutique-atmospheric.
There's a tiny dip pool; the rooftop jacuzzi looks out of comission.
A week before arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a personal reminder-email from the manager of the hotel (he manages two others as well),
and he immediatelly took care of my request for a room with two seperate beds.
However, I shall not return to this hotel, for two reasons.
The first is structural: there is no insulating door or partition between the room itself and the bathroom-toilette, only a too-short plastic curtain.
The wooden door to the toilette doesn't reach the ceiling. Consequentially every noise made while brushing teeth or using the toilette is heard in the room. Most unpleasant.
The second reason is of 'formal' definition. There is neither a minibar, nor kettle-condiments for preparing hot drinks.
There's also no phone to speak with reception.
These are - or should be - basics in a 4-stars hotel.
On our first morning, out of the blue, we were offered the option of moving to one of the other two sister hotels.
The offer was rescinded 15 minutes later, before we had the opportunity to check it.
Guests are allowed to have their brkfst at one of the sister hotels.
We tried all three; the best - at Casona Porvenir.

Excellent location and outstanding staff!
Very small pool and pool area in the second floor. The roof top has a spa/hot tub, but it wasn’t working. Considering the hot weather, the hotel should seriously consider replacing the rooftop spa or as they call it “the jacuzzi”.

Location was great, very central and close to everything. Breakfast was also very tasty and fresh. Also felt very safe and staff was very attentive.

The hotel is a lovely, small hotel with 8-10 rooms, so it felt personal and home-y. The Family room is a great space and it served us well to have a living room to hang out in. The room itself is beautifully furnished with old furniture. The upstairs bedroom gets a lot of light from the large windows. My only quarrel with it is that the upstairs bathroom is small and the whole thing gets wet when you shower, but that’s a small challenge.
The breakfast service at the hotel itself is quite poor; for instance, we asked for hot chocolate (which is on the menu) and were given coffee and kept being told it was chocolate. My mother cannot drink caffeine so this was very concerning. However, you can have breakfast at partner hotels 3-4 mins away for free, and I’d recommend doing that.

The hotel is very quiet. You will have the best sleep of your life in their fabulous beds. We rented three rooms and they were all beautifully decorated and comfortable.
The pool is small just to take a cooling dip.

Location was perfect and the staff were extremely accommodating. Sheik Rojas went out of his way to ensure my stay was pleasant one. The room was very pleasing on the eye, I was very surprised.
Only negative was the guest policy however I knew beforehand therefore wasn’t an issue. I would recommend this hotel as the best one I have stayed in so far in Cartagena.

Thre.place is too loud.
A construction crew was jack hammering after 10 pm at night and the staff would not move my room. There is a park about 100 meters away with a drum dance group that is so loud until 9 at night. Place is old and way too noisy. Staff was ok. But not worth the money.

We liked all about it, the location, breakfast, staff with good service and recommendations, the large stylish room.
The pool is very small so only to refresh oneself and we could use more plugs for phones and laptops near our nightstands.
