Very far from main attractions, around 30-40 from the bund . Room was very hot , appreciate front desk manager initiative to get me fan . Its like compound, room service close by 9 pm. Room service lady doesn’t speak English

Everything is + 1h far away from that by metro. This is a great hotel to enjoy it, but if you are a regular tourist to know the city, I recommend you to stay 1 or 2 days is you have time.

I love the free photoshoot! The breakfast was amazing, we loved the Chinese-style breakfast. Delicate and delicious, light, which is healthy. The buildings in general were amazing.
Coming from Paris to transit for a few days, we were not used to the heated temperature inside the room. We also were not used to not having any drinks in the fridge, such as coke. But the service person, Rich Yan, made it up very well, so overall we were very happy with our stay.
When we arrived it took a long time to register due to another person busy, there was no other person on the other computer for a long time.

We stayed 2 nights at the Royal Garden Hotel Shanghai. The property is absolutely gorgeous! It feels like stepping back in time, but with modern luxury amenities. The room was large and well appointed with 4 enormous wooden lattice windows, one window had a screen that can be opened to let the fresh air in, while another one served had no screen and served as a door to the balcony. I only wish we could have stayed an extra day/night, so we could have explored the grounds and taken advantage of the complementary photoshoot, which included hair, makeup and Hanfu (traditional Chinese) clothing. Since, we purchased early entry passes to Shanghai Disneyland and stayed until closing, we didn't use the free shuttle service to/from the hotel and Shanghai Disneyland. We also failed to make advanced reservations for the PVG airport shuttle. Instead, we used Didi, which was a cheap alternative for both Shanghai Disneyland and PVG airport transportation. Both were located approximately 25 mins. away from the hotel. The hotel also offers complementary buffet-style breakfast which had many Chinese and Western dish offerings. I would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Shanghai.
The room was non-smoking, but had the lingering smell of cigarette smoke. The air conditioner was on, but it wasn't working.

The traditional setting/architecture of the buildings and gardens were very special. The surroundings beautiful. The photoshoot session there was fun and the photos turned out great. The great efforts and care to dress/makeup/set up the photo shoot was very much appreciated. The dinner buffet was a great deal.

All buildings are beautiful and look authentic.
Breakfast is great, the rooms are big and comfortable. We didn't have much time to enjoy it because we stayed only a few hours, but we may go back again.
The hotel is supposed to accept foreign guests, so I would expect at least minimal english knowledge. This is the reason for the minus one point.

Large, safe, clean.
Breakfast was disappointing, just basic items. When it ended, we felt like we were being rushed out of the dining area. There wasn’t anything to do nearby the hotel, it’s in a business area far from restaurants and markets.

Disappointing
The breakfast was good as well as the room cleanliness. Beautiful hotel and super nice garden. Close to the airport about a 20min drive by taxi and/or shuttle. Unfortunately, the didn't like part overtook the overall experience at the hotel. Nonetheless the staff was super nice and helped us as much as they could above and beyond to make up for the shuttle issue we had experienced.
The description of the rooms are inaccurate. also the damage deposit of cny 1000 as described at the booking is incorrect. it's a deposit, yet still, the amount differs from what is written on booking.com. Also what is incorrect is the description of free shuttle service. We informed the hotel upfront to take the shuttle. However, we stood over 3 hrs outside in the cold with a 4 month old baby and simply no shuttle ever came. We were afraid to go back to the airport terminal, as we didn't want to miss the shuttle. Also 2 local people helped us calling the hotel (as we didn't have any mobile/wifi connectivity in China) and also after their calls the shuttle never came (even though the hotel said they would). In the end, we took a taxi and the hotel said that they couldn't find us, which was not true as we were the only foreigners standing at the exact pick-up point with a 4 month old baby. Mind you that i was walking back and forth to numerous busses and vans to ask if they were the shuttle for the hotel.
